Well I'll have more to say tomorrow but: Chow wins and not by a little; council got a little more progressive with some key flips & holds.
Oh and in Pickering it looks like Lisa Robinson lost and maybe we won't hear from her again until her again.
OK old council heads will understand when I say: I don't even know what it's going to be like watching council livestreams and not hearing Nunziata's voice presiding.
okay well we had to send the biped to bed without learning the election results, something that upset them greatly
either they're 100% my child or they just didn't want to go to bed and were grasping for any excuse that was handy
por que no le dos, etc etc
The Biped has us watching THE ROOKIE which is no hardship for parents who were fans of Nathan Fillion before being parents, but an ep we watched yesterday contained this nugget which I feel honors Ontario's municipal election day. Polls close at 8PM!
The UCP might make Edmonton pay up to $170M to rip out its own bike lanes.
I've heard reports that the UCP has been asking for costs of full network removals.
City numbers put that at $150-170M
This is the same gov't that just spent $130M on a glorified opinion poll.
NEW! For TVO @therundowntvo.bsky.social I look at how Ontarians spent election night a century ago - by heading downtown and catching the results either at city hall or at parties organized by the major newspapers with movies, music, and more! #onpoli#TOpoliwww.tvo.org/article/insi...
Okay so a) as a journalist I don't actually want to encourage this behaviour and also b) genuinely howling at "like, you know, we can't be trapped in the binary"
When a politician fails to answer my question: a historical injustice and another example of power avoiding accountability
A politician fails to answer my colleague's question, cleverly: why that little rascal!
this might rank as one of the most important outcomes of the night if it happens. would give dems the ability to begin to make north carolina a democracy
I would *LOVE* to not need to have strong opinions about a dozen US Senators or be able to name more SCOTUS justices than I can SCC ones. But the head of the US executive branch currently has very strong opinions about the continuing existence of my country, so
As someone who believes that a) attention is finite and b) Canadians allocate their political attention badly (too much feds, not enough provincial & local) I can actually kinda-sorta agree with a version of what Yglesias is saying. But there's no hermetically-sealed jurisdiction on this Earth!
I like to call it "tripwire zoning." The point isn't that anyone thinks (eg) infill townhouses pose real harms that need regulatory control, the point is to impose a process to extract rents. www.tvo.org/article/citi...
Boston’s chief planner is a true believer in the San Francisco model, in which you make it impossible to profitably build apartments by-right so developers are forced into a politicized discretionary negotiation with the city, which relaxes the rules in exchange for below-market units.
My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Liaison's a firm I'd actually trust to run a poll and sure enough they've got it too close to call but Bradford nominally ahead. press.liaisonstrategies.ca/toronto-brad...
The only poll that matters is in the field today, folks, and voting starts at 10AM. Vote for mayor, councillor, and (yes, still) school trustee.*
*except in communities where these offices have already been acclaimed
when people say the two parties are the same, one thing they aren’t just different but extremely meaningfully different on is Dems rank and file and the elite level very quickly shouted down or ignored the BlueAnon weirdos saying 2024 was stolen; the Republicans and Trump just put theirs in power
This is a good primer on Israel's political situation going into tomorrow's election. But I'd like to go deeper on something he only touches on, which is that part of the reason for Israel's electoral doldrums (and resulting geopolitical chaos) is its broken political system bsky.app/profile/avis...
In about 24 hours, poles will open here in Israel. In what is a strong contender for Israel’s most critical elections. The election pits Netanyahu’s extremely unpopular coalition against a non-coherent, but moderately more liberal, opposition. Here are some thoughts as we head into it.
The New Racism is just as serious in its potential impact as the old, but it is far, far, far, FAR more stupid. 'The calibre of racist has gone sharply downhill' sounds like it should be the start of a joke, but it is also: just demonstrably true!
Ohio candidate for governor Republican Vivek Ramaswamy is attempting to reframe his controversial ad featuring Democratic opponent Amy Acton’s estranged mother as protestors have started gathering at his events. ohiocapitaljournal.com/2026/10/25/r...
I'm sorry but banning non-English speakers because machine translation is unclean is more fascist than anything in the AI space except maybe Palantir's XAI enterprise account
hooooo boy we don't like this no we don't
> If you don't speak English, you need to find a different community. We cannot distinguish between AI-written and AI-translated. Since you don't speak English, you can't even verify yourself if it translated correctly.

Fifteen years ago, the Liberal party of Canada was dead. It's now coming up on 11 years in government and polling at 48%.
And that, kids, is why you should avoid making predictions about politics.
You can also do stuff like force messaging votes to make your opposition look bad, but Canadian governments hate their legislatures so much they won't even do that.
I imagine the BC NDP might tell themselves they were very likely to lose whenever the election came and the polls six weeks ago were as good as they were ever going to be for them.
But when you're in government you can do stuff. And the BC NDP just lost two years when they could have done stuff.
Dallas Brodie, who mocked the recall petition against her for only getting 3,663 signatures this summer, earned 805 votes in last night's election — placing last with less than 5% of her own riding, with her party getting 1.5% province-wide. thewalrus.ca/bc-snap-elec...
Putting an affordable housing building next to a bus and streetcar (in its own dedicated right-of-way) route, and adjacent to one of the city's biggest parks. A slam dunk idea, right? Think again!
