Ecstatica is a British game and it really shows. It has an unsettling atmosphere reminiscent of a 70s horror film like The Wicker Man or Don't Look Now, but also a table that comes to life and starts swearing and hitting you.

Actually, the combination of horror and absurdism reminds me of Xtro (another British horror film) a little bit.

Saw Vinny watching one of those infamous Dingo Pictures cartoons, and now I'm wondering if that company was some weird money laundering scheme.

I'm excited for the re-release of Ecstatica and the sequel. Two interesting survival horror games post-Alone in the Dark, but pre-Resident Evil. Seems like it's an enhanced port rather than the original EXE running in DOSBox: store.steampowered.com/app/4834840/...

I'm "closed minded" over the fact that we shouldn't starve people to death via welfare cuts. Also, the irony of a "centre-right" person calling someone a "dinosaur"

You see boys and girls. One minute The Lefties put on their lovely I'm morally compassionate. But as soon as you disagree they instantly turn into Pol Pot. Nothing ever changes amongst the ideologically closed minded dinosaurs.

"How dare you be mean to me for thinking we should starve people on benefits, you're just like some dictator!" Is such an amazing lack of self-awareness.

I am tired of games where u play as a straight dad teaching his son that violence is bad while performing 1000 glory kills... I prefer VAL'TY, a game where you play as a *trans mom* teaching her daughter that violence is *good* while blowing up *1000 American flags*

Airbnb is banning its hosts from making guests do things like “stripping the bed, taking trash offsite, or washing and putting away dishes.” The hosts....are not taking it well: www.wired.com/story/airbnb...

JK Rowling’s transphobia has ruined Harry Potter. That is a shame, there was a real magic in the fantasy of it. As a kid, I always loved imagining going to private coed boarding school. Inheriting a big pile of money. Drinking non alcoholic beer. Owning a little slave guy

3) Terminus (1987) Despite a somewhat hard to follow plot derivative of Blade Runner and Mad Max, the strange ideas and unique visuals alone (like the computer terminal/navigation system with lips) make it worth watching imo.

Inspired by @kaiserbeamz.bsky.social I'm starting a thread for what I'm currently watching/playing/reading... 1) Astal (1995) An example of what the Saturn was best at: gorgeous 2D games free from the limits of the 16-bit era consoles, with some 3D effects sprinkled on top.

2) Litan (1982) Masked gun-toting cultists in a fog-shrouded village, parasites(?) in the water supply, a protagonist with a cool jacket, and other things make me fairly certain this influenced Resident Evil 4. It's kinda like a more bonkers and French version of The Wicker Man.

Random observation: often when monkeys are depicted in fiction they tend to be some amalgamation of Macaques and Spider Monkeys that make Chimp sounds.

Seems like such a design flaw that bees die after they sting. It's like giving a soldier a bayonet that causes a heart attack upon use.

Cyber Doll If you see a big purple guy, you should ignore your first instinct to shoot him with a rocket. It bounces right off of him. #retrogaming #saturn

The idea for 'Skatekid' came when brainstorming Natla's goons. The male characters in OG Tomb Raider were deliberately created as quite buffoonish (except PD of course). The encounter a means to recover the Uzis and for some silliness to lighten the mood before the tension ratchets into the finale.

hey @cnhyv.bsky.social the skateboarder fight is one of my favourite parts of the original Tomb Raider. It's such a strange and memorable moment. Do you recall where the idea came from?

The Cartoon Network leak revealed that the team actually wrote fake interviews for the Powerpuff Girls in-house so that the writers could understand them better and honestly this is incredibly useful for learning how to characterize your characters holy shit

I saw Doctor Sleep and I didn't hate it as much as I expected, but it throws out all the ambiguity of the Shining in favour of "it's a literal haunted hotel full of SPOOKY GHOSTS that we need to DEFEAT with our SUPER POWERS and also there's a vampire cult for some reason!"

Cyber Doll 1 & 2. I don't want to give too much away, but you'll be stalked by a cyber assassin in a shopping mall. It's intense. 3. I completely shredded this low-level enemy to guarantee drops from the high-level enemy next to him. 4. Must be hard for cyborgs to get high. #retrogaming #saturn
