hey folks: my financial situation is not good for the next few months after moving to a new place - and a couple things i expected didn't come through. could really use any and all of your help either on my patreon: www.patreon.com/ellaguro or buy one of my albums here: ellaguro.bandcamp.com thanks!
supporting The Dolls and The uh... Jared Leto Jokers in this trying time has overtaken my normal feelings that being trans is probably like the 5th or 6th most interesting thing about me, and also that i mostly kinda stopped finding art that's primarily about transness interesting 10+ years ago
i guess some new trans artists have found new twists on things, and it's good for us to have more representation. but one aspect of being so relentlessly dehumanized is i have to care about engaging with a broader community/discourse that i was otherwise totally checked out of.
taking a documentary film class in college where we made a documentary short and also had to watch a bunch of documentary films is weirdly paying off now in a way i wouldn't have anticipated
on a similar note after GTA6 comes out i have an idea to write a post-"the last videogame" manifesto where i talk about this in more detail (i guess similar in parallel thought to @maxkriegervg.bsky.social's "post-gaming" stuff). so look for that.
just a reminder that there are a lot of great videogames coming out - certainly more in the indie realm than when the indie boom started in the late 00's/early 2010's. and it is absolutely a failure of the larger game industry to not make that reality feel at all worthwhile or meaningful.
my central point: either people making meaningful artistic contributions to the artform matters or it doesn't. you can't say it does matter when it has an obvious effect on the larger market, and doesn't matter when it doesn't. because then you're just fully centering the market ahead of the artform
So much to say about Brazil, not least of which is the role that Erika Hilton, a Black trans leader and most voted woman politician in Brazil, played in mobilizing folks for Lula. She was behind the critical, concrete, economic promise of shorter work-week.

the biggest presidential scandal in history but the political media largely acts as if it's not happening. hasan piker has received more mainstream political media coverage over the last 6 months than trump's connections with epstein has
NEW: "Donald Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of young women during the mid-to-late 1990s," per new House Judiciary Dem report.
Report has new allegation that Trump raped a 24-year-old and then promised the victim a visa & NYU admission, demanding she stay quiet.
in 5 years it's going to be the anarchist furries going to war with the "actually the cops are good and it's important to make political compromises" Jacobin and DSA types on the left, mark my words
remember that it's important to orient your political vision around "practicality", that's what really gets the people going. that's why i think the anarchist furries are going to win.
i know the first thing i think about when i think about hope and a vision for the future is whether or not i should abandon any issue that polls 45/55.
it's too bad i'll be forced to work in the salt mines because of this take for not understanding economic realism like Mr. Sweeney bsky.app/profile/sinn...

if you can't find a way to make works that are artistically compelling, challenging, and advance the form in some way feel meaningful - then that's your failure, and the larger market's failure. but it's not the failure of people making the games. i wish more people understood that.
this goes not just for games, but for other art forms. it's the failure of those industries when they make meaningful artistic achievements feel meaningless. regardless of "it's just how the market works" industry cliches, it is a total failure and should be understood and internalized as such.
just a reminder that we extended the submission deadline for the experimental games showcase to this Saturday! if you wanted to submit but put it off until now, now's your chance!

"stop talking about right wing freaks and talk about something positive instead" used to be a rule people followed intuitively before 2016, strange to think about how much the last decade on the internet has changed the calculus
obvs it comes down to the negative incentives of social media, the lack of actual positive alternatives being offered, the billionaires and reactionary types getting themselves to the forefront etc. but yeah it is kinda wild to think about how much we spend our days talking about right wing freaks
Instead we should focus on which messages, ideas, and visions beyond "we need to beat the far right" have mobilized large parts of society. We should understand the organizational structures behind these victories and acknowledge that they are about more than defending the status quo.
We need to stop always making the far right the subject of political agency and the object of voter decisions in our analyses of contemporary politics. The success of the far right is not inevitable. But single elections do not signal the end of the far-right threat to our democracies.
Many comments on the great election victories in Brazil and Serbia state that the authorian right is in decline or that voters have rejected far-right authoritarianism. That is a wrong interpretation of what happened. Progressive movements mobilized and beat the authoritarian right. That's different
I want all trans people to know that Erika Hilton is a black transwoman and the most-voted congresswoman in the history of Brazil, with 1.5 millions votes. She campaigned for Lula over the last three weeks. WE TRANS PEOPLE CAN EXIST IN POLITICS. It’s not a dream. It’s already a reality in Brazil!
i love X The Everything App - where aspiring school shooters and philosophy majors can intellectually co-mingle. i guess might as well pack it in on civilization then!
Hi. I, a trans woman, am the Executive Producer of this show. I wrote the question. He called trans girls men. He has now said it in three different places in the past week.
Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called.
An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.
NEVER BEFORE IN BRAZILIAN HISTORY A CANDIDATE THAT LOST THE FIRST ROUND WON THE ELECTIONS.
IN THESE 3 WEEKS BETWEEN ROUNDS WE LEARNED THE POWER OF COMMUNITY.

I just want to name that people overcame this. Even against a stacked deck, the good fight is worth it. Win or lose, it's worth it. And sometimes the good guys win.
Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted
Brazil was of two huge election results today—alongside the defeat of the nationalist, authoritarian leader of Serbia:
"the slate of candidates selected by protesting students had won at least 135 seats in Serbia’s 250-member legislature"
www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/w...
The long-serving strongman leader of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has conceded defeat in an election that pitted him and his right-wing party against a diverse student-led opposition movement that spent two years protesting his government.

I think people intuitively understand that democratic candidates tossing trans kids to the wolves is not only morally repugnant but also politically ineffective, otherwise they wouldn't freak out every time someone said they weren't voting for a democrat who did this
i think there's a general broad sense that if Democrats do what they did under Clinton, or under Biden, or do what UK Labour is doing and continue a rightward shift under the guise of "moderation" then we're pretty well fucked for good. so any Dem politician is going to have to contend with that.
not saying Dems won't try. but i think people are becoming pretty widely aware just how dangerous it is to have a Democrat do that now in a way that most were honestly totally in denial about when Biden won in 2020 and certainly not when Clinton won in the 90's.
in the US things getting worse for trans people has run totally parallel to things getting worse for women in general. there isn't that same sustained effort to cleave trans women off from cis women like in the UK. it's all part of the same shit stew. not very convinced centrist Dems can change that
all the anti-trans sentiment originates from the right wing in the US. and the anti-trans messaging is centrist Democrats trying stupidly to pick up right wing voters disillusioned with Trump. it's not something that i'm very convinced will do anything but further enrage the base.
i'm sure some UK Labour consultants will try and push them in that direction, but the supposedly pro-feminist but anti-trans, pro-ICE sort of Amy Acton constituency doesn't have much of a leg to stand on. those are not things that normally go together very much here.
