I voted early and enthusiastically for @hawkkoh.bsky.social I’ve had some people ask about why. He proactively stands up for trans kids. He will vote to expand the Supreme Court. And he is committed to labor rights and the labor movement in a way few DC politicians are.

Noah's a good writer and I love his political takes. His movie takes not so much 😄 but I'm willing to overlook that. If I had a job right now I'd subscribe but maybe what I can do is lead somebody else to subscribing

This is incorrect. What they're really saying is that they want to free up more budget for tokens so they're getting rid of people to do capital reallocation. But the people on the ground? They ain't happy. They're doing more work for the same pay and the AI tools ain't helping them that much.

Barclays is cutting 5,000 jobs after reporting £2.3B in quarterly profit. American Express is cutting 3,500 despite strong earnings. Both cite AI. AI lets companies do more with fewer people. Will AI also create enough new companies and jobs to offset the layoffs as businesses need fewer people?

Actually let's take him up on his suggestion to prosecute cyber crime, because I'm not sure that will work out so well for him and his employer

So much this ... long ago, polluting companies turned environmental causes into personal choices, not matters of policy. And welp... that took environmental causes off the political table for a generation. Let's not repeat that mistake, eh?

"If I, the consumer, simply refuse to use this tech, it will go away" shut up. Just shut up.

And now this pattern of thought terminating cliches dominates our political discourse. Great.

Christians do not understand how so many of their religious education outcomes were thought terminating cliches. Example: New Testament is the fulfillment of Tanakh. What exactly does that mean? Why is an oral mythic history of Am Yisrael fulfilled by a single guy existing centuries later?

When I was 17 I started working the early morning shift at McDonald's on weekends. About 2 or 3 months in I was fired because I refused to buy dark shoes. The job wasn't worth it for me to spend $50 to buy shoes just for that job

And then they invited him back this soon? What, gotta fill a quota or something???

I feel terrible asking this, but my debit card got stolen and I don’t currently have the funds in my account to cover some upcoming payments while I sort the dispute out with the bank. If anyone could help spot me, I would really appreciate that! V: @Ian-Coldwater CA: $iancoldwater PP: @coldwater

Trump does this a lot - string 2 incongruent statements together and then step back and watch people fight over it. A lot of people (mostly on the left) call out the incongruence and say it was intentional and then the MAGAs come in and talk about TDS. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Trump doesn't care - he's just stringing together whatever imagery pops into his brain and then everyone treats it like a Rorschach test. It's so dumb. So exhausting.

Hey dipshit - you can't pass a meaningful ethics bill when the looters are inside the house. Demagafication and nurnberg 2.0 first

Former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel calls on Democratic lawmakers to set aside plans to impeach President Trump if they win a majority in the House, pushing them instead to pass an ethics reform package.

This is slightly out of my normal lane, and I could charge six (hell maybe seven) figure to deliver this message as a consultant, but I’m gonna do it for free. Because I’m ✨enraged✨ People in the think tank/policy/inside the beltway DC world have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE how mad people are abt Cornell. 🧵

At first I was incensed to read this, but after reading more of the commentary, I think there's a gap between the UK and US educational systems. But still... I am concerned that a great number of our engineering/STEM students have very little use for or interest in humanities coursework

Mike Ross@eruptionchaser.bsky.social

Am I missing something here? In what universe would an engineering student ever study history?! Do many history students study engineering?! I *enjoyed* history at school, and I was *good* at it. But no way would I ever have studied it at university.

If you see all the things *waves hands* happening all around us and you don't advocate for more humanities at the university level, then I'm gonna question your reasons for proffering an opinion.

If there's a "worst of SF" list somewhere this should definitely go on it Seen at the corgi cafe..

I remember watching the MTV VMAs live in 1989 as a teenager. When i saw it was Axl Rose sashaying out for a duet with Tom Petty, every hair on my body stood on end. You have to understand, Axl was my absolute hero. He also had a strict evangelical background and was filled with rage.

Wow - somebody in the press actually gets it.

When I argue that this AI doomsday stuff is marketing hype, I mostly get ignored and I think I know why: people don't understand why "our product will destroy humanity" is an advertising pitch for the product. You're right. It's counterintuitive. But here's why www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-ne...
