Outstanding photo!

It's been far too long since I've spent some time photographing a slot canyon... I took this during a visit to Canyon X (Navajo Nation in Arizona) back in April 2017. Nikon D750, 14-24mm lens at 18mm, f6.3, ISO100, 1.3 seconds, -1 exposure compensation

Ah, February 15th has another anniversary - when the Pound started to possess 100 pence rather than the previous...240.

Happy 55th birthday, UK decimal currency. I’m old enough as an old git to remember the day. I collected hundreds of ½p coins in an old whiskey bottle before the coin got abolished

Today, February 15th, is National Flag of Canada Day, the anniversary of when our Maple Leaf flag was first raised. Also, on a single day, when Canada possessed 2 flags? #CanadianFlag #RedEnsign #CdnHist #Vexillology

On Jan. 29, 1894, the first Quebec Winter Carnival was held. The largest winter festival in the Western Hemisphere (and second largest on Earth), many aspects of the festival like the caribou drink, the ice palace and Bonhomme have become iconic. This is its story. 🧵 1/12

Indeed sad to hear sudden death of a talented historian.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of my PhD supervisor at Cambridge Professor David Abulafia. A very talented historian as well as a great supervisor and mentor who gave me sound career advice when I needed it. May his memory be a blessing. www.cai.cam.ac.uk/news/david-a...

Greenland, and its circular red and white flag, has been much in the news. Well... In 1963, Canadian Art/Weekend Magazine ran a competition for a new Canadian flag. The winner was this abstract modernist design by Rolland Lavoie. The rest is history! #cdnhist #vexillology #Greenland #Canada

Keep them on the shelves?

More than 10,000 books were tossed from the shelves at H.B. Beal Secondary School's library last year. Thames Valley District School Board said recycling the books was part of a standard review practice, but some librarians and archivists say there are better ways to give books a second life. 2/2

Well, two years' work has come to fruition. This month, the journal Ontario History has published my article on the history of the Ontario flag. Check it out! It was a discussion by @spaikin.bsky.social on TVO that sparked my interest. www.erudit.org/en/journals/... #vexillology #cdnhist #ontario

Went through a small English town many years ago. Its central church has a clock on its tower, but Alcester is different as the clock face is at an angle, to face down the High Street. Additionally, the outline of a Roman fort can be found in the Waitrose supermarket's carpark/parking lot. #England

I was really excited to join a special tour of Clapham South Deep Level Shelter this afternoon with IWM's patrons. A fascinating history beyond the Second World War, with an afterlife including being a hostel and labour exchange for those on the Windrush, and a hotel for the Festival of Britain

A deeply weird but unmissable series.

It was one of the most psychedelic, bizarre and beloved Canadian children's shows ever made. Structured like a sketch comedy show around the comedic genius of Billy Van, it is well remembered even to this day. This is the story of The Hilarious House of Frightenstein! 🧵 1/19
