I'm pleased to announce version 1.0 of `tact`, an app for stochastic polytomy resolution on phylogenies using taxonomy. A decade after the first line of code, scientists are still using `tact` to build complete trees of fish, termites, magnoliids, and more. Thank you! (🧵1/3)

Ellie Bath, one of my all-time favourite scientists, is advertising a PhD at Durham on the evolution of aggression. This looks like a kickass project combining a bunch of approaches and skills -- and, bonus, Durham is gorgeous. www.findaphd.com/phds/project...

Now that it's officially out, I have to say I'm quite proud of this work🙂 I got involved in it after a bit of a failure in another proj. Took way longer than it could. Started pregnant, published close to baby's 3rd bday😅 Very grateful for my patient mentors and collaborators doi.org/10.1093/molb...

I absolutely love this paper -- Menezes & Podos in Evolution demonstrate that loudness is linked to body size and gap width, but apparently not to habitat or mating system, across 123 Brazilian & US species. academic.oup.com/evolut/advan...

Research from the lab on the evolution of size and plumage dimorphism in birds! Grad student Catherine Alverson examined how species move between size and plumage dimorphism categories. While those results largely recapitulated previous work, there was an intriguing new finding [1/3]

🦋 New preprint showing the convergent evolution of iridescence, a conspicuous colouration that likely participates in the ability of Morpho butterflies to escape their predators! We bring evidence supporting evasive mimicry, i.e. the evolution of similar confusing patterns in hard-to-catch prey.
