Regardless of what people think about Elon, he has contributed to the advancement of technology, and continues to do amazing stuff. We are closer to a true flying car than we were before. It could happen this century.

"Flying cars are real!" 🚀 Elon Musk and Tesla showcase the new Roadster.

I'm glad that we have a framework or semblance of a plan, but from the looks of it there is still massive work to be done. More technology sharing, especially on pandemic prevention, more funding and research, and so on. We are still not prepared for another Global Pandemic, even after 4 years.

I watched the Kurzgesagt video on AI earlier today (about the Hugging Face attack), and it gave me some insight into how things went down. I read some of it through the news as it was coming out, but I hadn't read or seen the report after. This video uses that report. It's pretty obvious that...

Self-regulation, or self-governance of AI is insufficient in protecting public interest. There needs to be real and heavy government oversight and regulation on AI (AI agents in particular), and enforceable safety standards and protocols. AI's capabilities and threat should be treated seriously.

The AI companies themselves do not take it seriously enough because they have not been sanctioned or held accountable for the damages they've caused.

If Trump's deal with Russia for the Oil does not have other implicit goals, it looks like a pretty bad move. Pissing off Ukraine, the EU, UK, and basically all of your allies, undermining your own credibility, just to look like a desperate partisan midterm clutch, not very smart.

The ICC personnel have it hard enough as it was before, and the Trump Admin wants even more pressure on them. Undermining the global institutions the US itself was involved in building, how does that help US? There are better ways to handle the relationship with the ICC, certainly not like this.

Guess which two countries were AGAINST food being a human right during a UN Resolution in 2021? 1) North Korea 2) United States 3) China 4) Israel

Asking Russia for help while at the same time being in a proxy war against it is certainly... something. It's the first time I've seen such a thing. There is desperation, and then there's this. So much for lowering prices, America First, a "Strong" "Respected" nation reduced to begging Russia...

The failure to contain the Ebola outbreak in the Congo is a failure of the international community. COVID showed us that global cooperation on such health crises is necessary and urgent, and we still haven't built up the necessary response mechanism. Issues such as this warrant global solidarity.

A lot of groups have been dropping Claude usage lately. Microsoft, the Pentagon, Meta... Not a good look for a company going public on a $2T valuation.

I have re-continued my book collecting. Have about 700 books on the list. Will never be able to finish them in my lifetime. But it feels good to have them and to know I do. I can pick any topic that interests me at the moment and read about it in detail. Life is good.

Can confirm, absolute nosedive. Got "updated" to the new Copilot SuperApp. And they have instituted daily limits on chats now... I mean, it wasn't great before, but it's not even good right now. Hit the daily limit after 3 prompts. Microslop is slopping it again...

I like Gemini's Gems feature. It does what it's supposed to do, and it's convenient. Don't understand why Google is removing it. But I guess it's Google, they're constantly adding and removing their own projects/ideas. Hopefully the new Skills feature can at least be as convenient as Gems.

The Trump Administration has been on a generational run to dismantle the government-published public information that is available to all from being read. Taking down sites, databases, reports, stopping programs... If you map it out, basically on average they do such actions once to twice a month.

ProPublica@propublica.org

It was a rare federal dataset that captured human emotions. Consumers could have their complaints about American businesses published for all to see. For years, corporations have critiqued the system. Now the narratives are no longer being published.

The current US Administration underestimates the use of soft power to achieve their goals. It was a mistake to shut down, downsize, cut funding to, and gut their soft power apparatus. Instead their strategy has been to make TikTok edits and badly use AI for it. Mostly aimed at a domestic audience.

All the data center pushback on Earth means they'll have to move making them to space. This is one way to do it, there would be other companies also trying. In the end, technology advances, and we will get data centers in space. The only problem might be once again clustering the orbit with junk.

I remember when I was young and just starting to read, buying my first couple of small story books that cost only around one or two dollars. I still have those books, and the wonder of reading them is still there. It has allowed me to experience life in a truly unique way. I'm glad I got them.

I am absolutely NOT comfortable giving any AI chatbot or agent access to my banking or financial data. Hearing how AI agents will be used for shopping on behalf of people, well, not me. The most I could see myself giving, in terms of info, is perhaps email, but even that is stretching it.

UN reform must not include new permanent members to the Council who have a veto. It's chaotic and opportunistically used by the P5 now as it is, if even more nations have it, I can't imagine anything being done. Unless a better way is thought of, asking for more veto powers is frankly unrealistic.

The UN has been forced to abandon its responsibilities by the P5. They've done extensive damage to it through their direct or indirect actions throughout the years. Going so far as to even assassinate a Secretary-General when he did not bow to them. If these nations...

...International responsibilities and focus on domestic only policies and politics. This could have been avoided. We did not have to enter a Permacrisis Era, where the flames of conflict are seemingly unending, and countless crises arise constantly. The UN was made to prevent this.

Even if AI becomes self-aware or achieves Singularity, it won't wipe out humanity. There is a possibility of a "Purge", but not civilizational extinction. We do a lot of good, and have more good people than bad. This is in our favor.

Countries should not be quick to shove AI into everything and use it for any major decisions worth a damn. Especially in warfare. We've been close to annihilation before because of human misunderstanding, and it will be easier to make irreversible mistakes when AI provides hallucinated information.

This does not mean that AI is useless, but human oversight and operation is absolutely necessary throughout, and everything must first be checked before being presented to decision makers. Being hasty will not do any good.

Iran's economy seems to be cracking under US pressure. Inflation is over 90%, with food and beverages over 100% GDP is expected to contract over 5-10% If this continues, it could be possible for the US to achieve its strategic objectives. Especially if pressure is ramped up even more.

I've been using Bluesky for a bit now, and it's pretty good. I'm glad there are no endless bot and age verifications like X, which Elon ruined. Free speech my ass. All your personal data goes to an Israeli company too... The only negative that there is, is there is a lot less people...

...since most still use X. But between wanting my phone number, ID, palm scan, and whatever else, I'd rather be following less people. Social media is social media, and in terms of discourse it's not a lot different than X in terms of the level of it. But it's normal as things go.

Being constantly pressured to give up personal information through identification when online is now the norm. The age of pretending we were anonymous on the internet is over. At least it was less hassle.

Grok has entered its enshittification era. Automations (Tasks) are worse, with frequent failed and empty responses. Imagine constantly messes up images. Even normal chat is stuck on thinking sometimes with no response. The best thing about it was the Automations, sucks they're so bad now.

"Online games sites, AI chatbots and companions as well as social media platforms will soon have to carry out age verification when a user opens a new account, according to documents obtained by Euractiv" - about the upcoming EU Kids Act We should not pander to the few at the expense of the many.

Mandatory age verification sounds like a thing from a futuristic dystopia novel, and should not be allowed to pass. The government cannot step in because parents have not been doing their job as parents. That is not the responsibility of the state. I really hope this thing gets obliterated.

Glad to see the public pushback about Flock cameras. That is an unacceptable level of surveillance power, which was and is abused constantly. There should be accountability before power.

AI development cannot be slowed or "paced". From a government POV, AI is a strategic weapon, and slowing down on purpose is creating weaknesses that can be exploited. Unless every country and research lab on Earth slows down AI development at the same time, it's pointless and hypocritical to do.

Are systemically important institutions and governments worldwide adopting AI in defense of their infrastructure and data fast enough? Because from what I'm seeing, AI being used in hacking and breaches has increased dramatically, and there are plenty of people who have warned it would continue.
