There comes a time in every reactionary politician's life when he must steel himself, insert a nasogastric tube for unclear reasons, put on his bravest grimace, and give the weirdest thumbs-up anyone has ever seen.

The color guy here keeps explaining very obvious overtime strategy, and I don’t know who needs to do this, but someone needs to explain to him that if you’re watching JMU-App St on a Thursday night, you probably completed the 101 courses.

OK...what is an open-world football game? Does Pat Mahomes have to do some sidequests before the game? Is there a minigame where you have to get Sauce Gardner's sauce company off the ground? Is there a branching storyline for Brock Bowers romance options? I'm confused but slightly intrigued.

Agree with all of this except the love part. This is who he always is. Why do people love him?

I love Gus Johnson but he was brutal today. The missed FG, the fumble, the last play there. Rough.

Austin Wells — once thought of as a bat-only prospect who wouldn't make it as a catcher — was just nominated for a Gold Glove. Back in the May issue of Yankees Magazine, I looked at how he evolved behind the plate, and what — if anything — actually changed. www.mlb.com/news/yankees...

"Jazz might be the most important guy on the field tonight," Aaron Boone said about removing Chisholm Jr. from the starting lineup for Game 3. He's pinch-hitting to lead off the bottom of the seventh.

In Ryan Vilade's first AB tonight, he his a ball to LF that would have been a homer in 6 parks, but not Yankee Stadium. In his second, he hit a ball that would only be a homer at Yankee Stadium (and probably only without Aaron Judge playing RF). But since it *is* Yankee Stadium, it counts.

Earlier today, Carlos Rodon was asked how to beat this Rays lineup. His advice: Get to the top of their lineup without runners on base. Fried facing leadoff man Díaz now in top of the third with two runners on …

Before we move ahead to the Division Series, Meredith Marakovits and I took a look back at Cam Schlittler’s insane AL Wild Card Series run for this week’s New York Yankees Pfficial Podcast. Check out the full episode at yankees.com/podcast or the podcast app of your choice.

Paul Goldschmidt batting here instead of Stanton makes me think that G was just here as a decoy for a first-time opposing manager to deal with. I wonder if he's on the ALDS roster …

Fuck this guy a million times.

Scoring change here in the Bronx — the seven combined runs that the Yankees scored in the seventh and eighth innings have actually been charged to Chad Tracy.

Eight of the Yankees' nine hits so far tonight, both RBI, and — obviously — the majority of the pitching has been the work of players drafted and developed by the organization.

Ben Rice has two hits today — one crushed 110.3 in the first inning that went to the gap in right center, and the solo shot just now to Monument Park that he hit 108.

I just found myself with some free time, so I counted, and it turns out that tonight's Yankees-Red Sox ALWC Game 1 will be the 107th MLB postseason game I've attended. Which means that Game 5 of the 2024 World Series — certainly memorable in a bad way for Yankees fans — was my 100th.
