The sun still rises! This weeks Climate Conversation features Dr. Hart Banack from the UNBC School of Education. #highered #conversation #climatechange

I think one of the lessons here is that progressive governments will not win by trying to carve out cutesy conservative policies. Repealing the carbon tax, promising gas tax cuts: the NDP still got hammered. People see right through that shit. Run on what you’re good at, and how you’ll do better.

I don't like the reason that I had to go and vote in this provincial election (an opportunistic snap election that will likely backfire) but I was so grateful at how easy it was to go and vote.

Three provincial agencies recently came together to do some great work mapping out disaster and climate risks: climatereadybc.gov.bc.ca/pages/dcrra Whatever party ends up with the most seats should be paying close attention to the scenarios.

An extremely frustrating story to cover, because there are almost no campaign promises related to environmental emergencies like fire and flood, from any of BC’s parties. Good thing fires and floods almost never happen here…

It is hard to see the removal of bike lanes - at the direction of provincial premiers! - as anything other than red meat for their car-brained base.

Giving this another bump, please share with your networks and any current/former students who might be qualified (Canadian citizenship or permanent residency required) #geospatial #gis #glaciers #snowpacks #hydrology #highered 🧪

This is an absolutely bonkers story. The amounts are incredible, not to mention the conspiracy theory nonsense

Lauren Dobson-Hughes@ldobsonhughes.bsky.social

Anyone who's ever had a tax agency clawback disability or child benefit, or been challenged on a business parking expense stares in disbelief Some delulu conspiracy theorist claims CRA owes him $40m because he's a sovereign citizen, and CRA dutifully coughs up said $40m www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Niche post: fun little CCV fact for all the Tri-Council folks out there...it won't allow you to include publications more than six years old, but it doesn't seem to care about your media interviews!

Seeing reports of another debris flood in Nepal. Appears to be lower energy than the previous event but affecting communities in the Budhigandaki tributary.

I can only hope that warnings were sent out with enough time and the loss of life and property is minimal. I guess I could also hope that the rest of the world wakes the fuck up to climate change but that might be asking too much.

Seeing reports of another debris flood in Nepal. Appears to be lower energy than the previous event but affecting communities in the Budhigandaki tributary.

There is footage of a landslide that may have partially blocked the river. Downstream flows appear to be very dense (heavy with sediment). From instagram user mountain.trekking:

Another view, probably higher upstream - this appears to be the front of the flood. The very low water levels in the channel are likely due to the blockage. IG: sudangurung.official

brb, listening to the wind atm

fast-tracking a publicly funded pipeline *and* cutting gas taxes just as the world will experience its hottest year on record is one way to cement your legacies, I guess

Joseph Shea reposted

Throwing billions in public money behind a pipeline at a time of climate breakdown – while sweeping aside environmental protections, meaningful Indigenous consultation and workers’ right to strike – is absolutely not in the national interest.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Maybe I’m oversimplifying things, but it sure seems a lot of the problems our society is facing could be eliminated by bringing back accountability.

Spectacular fall day for a field trip! GEOG111 and ENSC111 students headed to Shane Lake for a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS aka drone) mapping demonstration and some fresh air and blue skies after yesterday's rain. #highered #getoutside #RPAS #mapping

As our municipal and provincial elections loom here in BC, I hope our candidates will all post their views on the rise of fascist white supremacist groups and how they will run them out of town if they try to show their masked pathetic faces.

Haven't thought this out all the way through, but now would be a good time for an aggressive humanitarian movement to combat the death cults, the rise of AI, and otherwise anti-life impulses coursing through our politics and society.
