At 67 minutes, Tetsuo: The Iron Man isn’t a short movie. It’s the designated time needed to do its thing and peace out. First watch and what a ride. Last movie the son picked before he headed back up the mountain to school. Tsukamoto does it all as well as co-star in his mad industrial vision.

It’s #SupermanSunday Art by one of the masters, Matt Wagner

Good morning #comicsky! It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s #SupermanSunday! Art by Fico Ossio & Ulises Arreola

Son spotted Cocoon today at the used store. Instant purchase. So sad this one is caught up in licensing and corporate purgatory. Also, Blu-ray step ups for They Live, The Fog, and The Howling, a replacement Southern Comfort, and Bubba Ho-Tep.

At the only authentic Chinese around where we live. And the food is awesome. My chop sticks game is weak but I’m about to destroy these Chongquing noodles.

Also this week, first watch for The Ugly American. Excellent. First three episodes of Carrie. Flanagan is a gift. Son home from school for the weekend and picked An American Werewolf in London to start the night. #LastFourWatched @letterboxd.social

Son had to watch The Ugly American for his university Film and History class. He wants to discuss it. One aspect in particular he mentioned is the ending. Gave it a first watch last night. One of the most apropos endings to a film I’ve ever seen. The frankness is stunning and still valid.

A rewatch for tonight’s Septober Horror pick. It’s early so might get in two. A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master

70s Marvel with Worlds Unknown Issues 5-8 included: An adaptation of the seminal A.E. van Vogt story Black Destroyer from 1939 An adaptation of Killdozer, a made for tv movie based on a novella by Theodore Sturgeon A two-part adaptation of Ray Harryhausen’s final Sinbad movie

Cooking up thighs, wings, and oysters on the pull behind grill today for a front yard jam session today. Bluegrass, Grateful Dead, and lots of other acoustic goodness happening. Temps dropped and it’s gonna be a wonderful day.

Goal today is an act of spontaneous kindness. Hopefully more than one. Just need some good to happen that feels tangible. Even if for only a moment.

Sold. And quite easily at that. Effortlessly even.

Gang, I cannot stress how excited I am for you to hear Midnight Radio. It's been a weird, punk rock, self-funded, dream project. Season 1 is just insane, with a crazy cast I can't believe I got to work with. You've never heard anything quite like it. Episodes drop beginning Oct 22nd!

Lester Dent, born 122 years ago today, authored 159 of the 181 issues of the Doc Savage pulp magazine. Finding Doc was like finding a bit of magic and spurred my imagination when I was young back in the 70s. Still reading and loving them today.

What I like about Bluesky is that Ukraine's bombing of the Russian Bots has no effect on traffic here, we all blocked those bots long ago

If you need a pickmeup, Ukraine struck and destroyed a Russian data center last night, reducing Russian bot traffic by 50%, dropping online pro-AfD discussion to zero, cratering MAGA traffic, and making Elon big mad. Just in time for the mid-terms. Slava fucking Ukraini.

When Eyes Wide Shut premiered, I didn’t go. Didn’t rent it when it came out in video. The reasons were various and nothing at all like protesting by not giving the studio/Kubrick/Cruise my money. Finally watched it today and in some ways I’m glad I did and in others I wish I hadn’t.

A moment where I felt for Boorman but couldn’t help laughing.

Saw BOORMAN AND THE DEVIL and one of the most impressive things about it is that it verifies Friedkin's apocryphal-sounding account of EXORCIST II's test screening by digging up a first-hand witness whose friend started the revolt that caused the execs to flee the theatre in terror.

There will be a “now that I know all this new stuff about how this went down” temptation to rewatch The Heretic after this is over and that simply cannot happen. So there’s no misinterpretation this being the interweb, nothing but respect for Boorman. Been looking forward to this one.

BOORMAN AND THE DEVIL (2025) — 8:00 pm ET — 1h 52m (TCM Premiere) (Films on Film) John Boorman, Louise Fletcher, Linda Blair; directed by David Kittredge Cast and filmmakers look back at Boorman's "Exorcist II: The Heretic" and its spectacular failure that nearly ended his career. #TCM #TCMParty

Caught Resident Evil in the theater over the past week as well. Had a good time. First watches for the Schrader/Harlin Exorcist prequels on back to back nights. Not the worst but a metric ton of mediocrity between them. #LastFourWatched @letterboxd.social

Tonight on TCM is a Joe Dante triple feature starting off with the wonderful Matinee. There’s a wonderful scene where John Goodman’s character describes the magic of going to the movies. A heartfelt tribute to film and B movies. Followed by The ‘Burbs and The Howling.

The leaked script has an opening scene recreation of Renee Good’s murder by ICE. She’s described as a “fat blue hair.” The script has a bullet entering below her (specifically pointed out) Covid mask and another to her head above (same) her mask.

worldofreel.comHarvey Keitel, Danny Trejo and Henry Thomas Lead Ben Shapiro's Pro-ICE ‘Pawn Shop’ — World of ReelBen Shapiro is at it again in his quest to conquer cinema. The Daily Wire's next film has started production in Montana, and if the goal was to grab headlines , mission accomplished.

Alan Scott’s Green Lantern costume shouldn’t work with that color scheme. But I love it. Okay Lanterns season finale, let’s see what ya got.

Finishing off some creamy grilled chicken cheese tortellini soup with roasted butternut squash and Swiss chard. Y’all have a good one. Hopeful that Lanterns sticks the landing tonight.

Drove up to Boone for lunch and Resident Evil with the daughter and son today. Had a fun time with some good scares and plenty of laughs.
