NEW: The Trump administration committed the U.S. to taking a large stake in a Venezuelan company, some of whose owners and investors are shielded from public view.
The exact details of the agreement over oil fields had remained unclear — until now.
It's like I can't escape this movie, The Devils. It's all over my socials with people discovering it, and all over Reddit with recommendations. I like the movie but what's with this sudden surge in popularity? #filmsky
This weekend, my girlfriend and I watched NAZA in a small theater on the Upper West Side. It was a pretty somber experience, and the audience was mostly quiet. The most audible reaction was the gasps from the crowd when one of the IDF soldiers admitted to allowing dogs to eat dead children.
BAIER: The president says 'SI.' Are you into SI or AI?
BEZOS: I do like SI, because 'artificial' is not a very flattering thing. Like, nobody wants an artificial sweetener, artificial flavoring.

Rewatching Akira last week sent me down an Evangelion sized rabbit hole this week. I'm on episode 18 and shit is starting to get weird. Not sure where it's going but I have lots of questions that need answers. Like wtf are these "Angels" that keep getting creepier with every appearance.
It's 2026 and I've decided now would be a good time to rebuild my physical media collection. The first movie I reacquired as a 4K disc was The Virgin Suicides, and the second is Akira.
GF & I are still making our way through past Oscar winners so this weekend we watched Kramer vs. Kramer 1979) and The Apartment (1960) which we both really enjoyed. Kramer vs. Kramer is probably the best "new" movie I watched all year and Shirley Maclaine in The Apartment is incredibly adorable.
This weekend I rewatched Akira for the first time in maybe 20 years and it was an experience. The post-apocalyptic setting hits different in 2026. I also fell in love with the hand drawn animation all over again. What a masterpiece. #filmsky#animesky
Also, he purged the Kennedy Center of a collection of African art that was given in tribute to JFK, but he installed this, from the Tony Montana Meets Saddam Hussein Collection.
This scene from Glory always gets me emotional. They're charging into certain death. The bravery in this scene is something else.
What scene makes you emotional no matter how many times you see it?
This year, my girlfriend and I have been trying to watch every past Best Picture winner. This weekend we did On the Waterfront (1954)(4/5), In the Heat of the Night (1967) (3.5/5), and All About Eve (1950) (4/5). #filmsky#oscars
All About Eve was the surprise for me. Bette Davis kills it.
it's family movie night and since I'm in Halloween mode already I'm trying to come up with something good to show everyone. I might have went too far with my last pick, Angst, so I want this to be a touch harder... Salo, perhaps?
This will never happen but it doesn't need to. His low-information base will hear him & believe it. It doesn't matter that the courts won't allow it, Congress won't allow it, or that it was never possible in the first place. He mentioned it and it doesn't have to be remotely true for it to work.
404 Media is revealing the name of Border Patrol's predictive policing units, which analyze financial data and have local cops pull people over. The people are not suspected of any particular crime.
Sony has responded to a digital games lawsuit by arguing that players don't actually own the games they buy
Its lawyers say they are licensed rather than sold
In terms of game industry news, this is pretty devastating for me. I hope Night School Studio sticks together through this. They're such an underrated team, they deserve better than this.

Zohran Mamdani is backing a bill to hold Amazon accountable for exploiting delivery drivers.
Now Amazon is launching a $5M lobbying blitz — led by Chuck Schumer's daughter — to crush it.
Instead of spending millions on lobbying, Amazon should pay and treat its drivers fairly.
As remarkable as Mamdani is, what he's doing is incredibly simple. He's a person in power unencumbered by special interests and lobbying groups. He's making the job of mayor look easy because he's simply trying to do what he said he would do.
I'm officially taking off for GTA6's release. I haven't done this in years and years but for a GTA sequel it makes sense. I'm not even the biggest fan, but this could be an industry changing event and I want to absorb it all.
lindsay graham was a bad person who has caused tremendous suffering. he violated every word of his oath of office every day. he betrayed our country. it's ok to celebrate the deaths of bad people.
I recently got to rewatch The Goonies for movie night and I was pleasantly surprised by what a crowd pleaser it was. There aren’t too many movies I’ve rewatched more than The Goonies as a kid. Probably only West Side Story and Rosemary’s Baby come close. People were also drunk and it was a good time
Just discovered Afterplay, a web based emulator that has apps for Windows, Mac and iOS. This is very cool.
I just spent a few weeks organizing my ROM collection with correct media, removed dupes and quarantined proto and homebrew stuff so I’m curious about copying them onto this service.
So Mitch McConnell might go soon. He's been bed ridden for weeks and his staff is hiding his condition. Personally, I hope they take him like they did Carl Bruner in Ghost.
Employee retention and overlap should be considered when antitrust bodies evaluate a corporate acquisition or merger. What Microsoft is doing has been deeply damaging to the game industry.
I watched Disclosure Day and I'll say I liked it, but it wasn't exactly what I wanted out of a first-contact movie. I was hoping for something closer to Arrival or Contact, but it was giving more War of the Worlds in the sense that you can tell this is meant to be a Spielberg summer blockbuster.
And while I love a Spielberg summer action movie, I'm really particular about this subgenre of alien movie. I think the second half makes up for the first half but I do feel like it's a missed opportunity in a sense. 3.5 out of 5.
Lastly, Emily Blunt is really good, probably my favorite performance of hers so far and there was one scene that unexpectedly got me choked up but it had to do with aliens, not people.
