Wondering why you've seen so many "Ai Company / Mouthpiece Says We Need Cooperation To Stop Ai Destroying Humanity" stories lately? Wonder no more - Here's another one of those "Summed up something I've been struggling to articulate" articles from @doctorow.pluralistic.net.

Got a chance to stop by my local farmers market for a moment and noticed numerous booths that has extensive AI signage/photos/art in their displays in the past have all been replaced with seemingly handmade work So…I think the backlash is working you all

"I'd be lying to say if I were surprised."

This news is important because all the fucks out there actively attempting to wreck the world want you to think that the work is hopeless and just mitigating the worst case scenario. It's not. Fucking keep going.

AI advocates say we have no right to stop innovation in the free market. Hogwash. We don’t allow corporations to come up with new nuclear weapons or varieties of cocaine or biological pathogens. We protect the public from certain kinds of innovation. We need guardrails on AI before it’s too late.

This is the oldest* surviving Snakes & Ladders board in the world. Specifically, it's Gyan Chaupar, the Game of Knowledge. It's from the late 18th Century, but the game is much older - paper & cloth are not resilient media. The ladders represent virtue, the snakes vice. The scorpions are decorative.
