(1/8) I think that everyone gets that. It doesn't matter - not really, not anymore. It's not that the world has a grudge against you. If the US had some kind of natural disaster I'm sure that Canada would try to save people BUT ... the United States is no longer a real ally of Canada.

Iโ€™ll just remind everyone. A solid 35% of the country has hated this bastard for well over a decade, about 50% for nearly a decade. We hate him more than you ever could. Please remember not all of us are blithering cult members.

If it goes the way bubbles normally do it will go 1) Stock price crash and bankruptcy. 2) Bail out for banks and big investors 3) Big investors form new companies and buy bankrupt companies for pennies on the dollar. 4) Private capital owns bailed out companies, with zero debt. Govt foots the bill.

A 2025 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, Omar Yaghi is the son of Palestinian refugees who grew up in Jordan. He just left the US to move to China after raising concerns about rising anti-immigrant sentiment, like the kind shown here. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/china-than...

RFK is a good metaphor for the state of the U.S. - Whatever "Chamelot" there was to the Kennedy family, whatever mythology there was about JFK, and RFK, JFK jr. and even Teddy - it's been reduced to an uneducated dude with a brainworm who eats roadkill and can barely form a coherent sentence.

As recently as the 90s, marijuana legalization and queer rights were fringe issues and things like extremely sexist dress codes were commonplace. (Almost every male worker needed a tie - unless you were a factory or agriculture worker, almost every woman needed skirts and high-heels.)

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But whatโ€™s something that youโ€™ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

We hired Carney to save the economy in the face of Trump, and to transition the economy away from the United States. He was never going to usher in a socialist utopia - it's not what we hired him for. If you need your car fixed, you don't hire a plumber. He doesn't have the right tools.

I support Carney. That doesnโ€™t mean I support everything heโ€™s done. No other Leaders of the other political parties can meet the criteria of today. Carney is governing, the others are still campaigning. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ ๐Ÿ‘Š ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ ๐Ÿ’ช

It was and is my hope that he can maintain things like health care, dental care, day care etc., pretty much as they are - not gut anything and not do any environmental damage that can't be fixed. If he's successful, then Canada should have the economic foundation to do great things in the future.

We have the resources, and space to be extremely prosperous for the rest of this century and beyond, and that will allow us to add to and expand current programs, without poverty causing the working class to become selfish. The alternative to Carney was Pollievre and total capitulation to Trump.

Whoa ... the world's most overvalued car company (high stock price but low, low production and in decline), is thinking about merging with a company entirely dependent on govt. contracts; one that lost $5 billion last year? The investment world should faint with excitement. #MarsHereWeCome #Musk

If your city/state/province/territory even mentions privatizing water - force whoever suggested it to resign: The UK did it, and - they have some of the highest water bills in the world, the infrastructure is failing, there's poo in the water and the water companies have received multiple bailouts.

The problem isn't the number of cops - there are countries with way more police & way fewer police involved assaults/killings - the problem is American culture in general, and what police in the US are asked to do.

The Atlantic@theatlantic.com

โ€œIn recent years, many Americans have decided that their countryโ€™s problem was that it had too many police officers, when in fact its problem was that it had too few,โ€ Malcolm Gladwell writes:

There are also places with as many or more police, but in 'murica the police are there to "catch bad guys" instead of just "help people" - which can take many forms. In the US it's assumed the the main job of police is to catch criminals and take them to jail, which frequently "helps" no one.

A dire warning, billionaire criminal Musk has set up a scheme in the form of a website votesafe.org in order to steal voter information. Never click on the link and please share this everywhere so others wonโ€™t fall prey to it like so many others.

Odin promised Norway to his followers. I have only a small amount of Norse ancestry, but the land belongs to Odin worshipers. We have the right to take it by force if necessary. Any opposition is bigotry and lack of respect for our self determination. This is Zionism, but for Odin. #FreePalestine

Five of the nastiest referendum questions take rights away from immigrants. But helping immigrant citizens understand the convoluted questions - and helping them overcome their fear of voting - is tough. I talk to 3 fierce leaders of Calgaryโ€™s Asian community about how theyโ€™re getting it done!

There is a salmon run just a few blocks from my house - they come up Oshawa creek between late September and early November. They are near the end of their life cycle anyway by the time they get here, but this year there are fewer of them and they are dying faster. Is this everywhere?

Metallica have always been whiny little prima donna babies but in this case, making a statement about how you don't get involved in politics IS making a statement. If you're "not going to weigh in" then you can just STFU and play - by bringing it up at all, you are making a statement. #FreePalestine

They are going to be even incelier. My youngest has a friend group of 11-13 year olds and it's all girls. They don't talk about boys, they don't have "boyfriends", they seem to have thrown out the friend zone completely. Boys are just not a part of their world at all, unless it's school related.

Why are there so many American presenters on the BBC latey? I listen to some BBC News podcasts and there are a surprising number of people lately who donโ€™t have a trace of any UK accents. Is it just journos fleeing the US (along with doctors, nurses, teachers and academics)?

Actual shoplifting is pretty rare. I worked in a grocery store for a year, and not once did I see anyone try to steal food, baby products, basic toiletries, women's hygiene products, baby products or medicine. Shoplifting is mostly a myth.
