My assumption, based on his name alone, was that Braeden Chow was some sort of unholy Bradford/Chow Brundlefly.

This post is unavailable.

Braeden Chow’s biggest contribution to the race was that he forced the Olivia Chow campaign to run around saying “Number Nine” over and over again like some sort of truly weird Beatles tribute act.

My ward is one of the wards that went heavily for Chow, which is no surprise. What’s notable, if not necessarily surprising, is the strong showing for Chow in Bradford’s own ward. As my wife noted, nobody hates Donald Trump quite like New York.

And that that's the map. 19 wards vs. 6 wards.

Good morning! Still kind of riding the high. Chow and her progressive coalition are the option you vote for when you care about your town and the people you share it with, and that option winning so decisively makes you feel pretty great about your community.

If you replace all the “Mamdanis” in this sentence with, say, the Hamburglar, it still makes about the same amount of sense.

On CBC, Nokha Dakroub from The Radical Centre podcast offers her big takeaways from the night: "I think Mississauga found a Mamdani and Oshawa found a Mamdani, and unfortunately Brad Bradford wasn't Mamdani enough."

For what it’s worth, Alexander entered the race at 10% and dipped into single digits from there. So it looks like Chow beat Bradford by a larger share of the vote than Alexander held at any point in the race.

For reference, Chris Alexander, who withdrew from the race three weeks ago, is currently in fourth place.

Toronto’s voting record has been pretty hit and miss over the years, to say the least. So it’s nice when we collectively make good choices, and we made a lot of decisive ones tonight. That’s a good feeling.

The fact that we have a host of new progressive councillors and a stunning re-election win for the mayor, in an election with a substantially higher turnout than the last, feels very “We did it” when you put it all together.

It's good to be magnanimous in victory, but it does need to be acknowledged that this race wasn't even close. A massive win for Chow and an impressive show of support for her leadership. Her opponent ran as little more than "The Guy Who's Not Chow," and he got demolished.

Nate Erskine-Smith has won Beaches-East York, where he formerly served as an MP. He's very popular in the ward. Brad Bradford, the outgoing councillor for Beaches-East York, did not prove to be very popular in the ward tonight. He will not be returning to City Hall.

From the start, the Chow campaign’s message was “We have a comfortable lead now, but don’t take it for granted, because anything can happen.” Going into Election Day, it was “We need every vote we can get.” They did some great work here. A truly decisive victory.

Turnout's also up several percentage points over 2023, which is nice, and no doubt speaks to the strength of Chow's "get out the vote" effort.

I’ve got three different sites open now, which is ridiculous, because it’s not like one of them’s going to scoop the other two at this point.

Looks like we're going to do that thing where the guy you didn't vote for starts with the largest share of the small handful of earliest votes, and then you just hope that number drops far enough before the reporting number gets too high.

Braeden Chow currently appears to be in third place with less than one percent of the vote, suggesting that the “Vote for No. 9” push went well overall, but not perfectly.

And so far, it's dropping. You've got to give it that. I've heard rumblings that the early advantage comes down to his strongholds being the first to report.

Yeah, my youngest is absolutely angling for a later bedtime, but if it weren’t because of this, they’d have another excuse at the ready.

okay well we had to send the biped to bed without learning the election results, something that upset them greatly either they're 100% my child or they just didn't want to go to bed and were grasping for any excuse that was handy por que no le dos, etc etc

As my wife has pointed out, what Obama’s done here is ensure that Trump will publicly whine about the Cheesecake Factory dig for the next few weeks at least. He’ll certainly spend the final week before the midterms yelling about it.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump is BIG MAD about Obama saying the White House now looks like Saddam opened a Cheesecake Factory: "He's not a smart guy. He's not smart at all ... for you to say it's a Cheesecake Factory, that just shows why you were a lousy president"

I’ve heard some pretty good things about Man Fiery and his restaurants in the past, but as “all you can eat” promotions go, this one sounds kind of risky.

Voting is a very important part of the effort to build the city we want, but it's just one part of that effort. In essence, what we're waiting to find out is whether our city has chosen to make it easier or harder to do that work together. #topoli

I've never liked the part of Election Day where you have to sit around and wait to see what's happened. During anxious moments like these especially, I find it helps to focus on the bigger picture beyond the results, and that bigger picture is the work. #topoli

Whatever issues we might have been passionate about during the election cycle will still be there tomorrow, and they'll demand the same commitment and dedication that a lot of us have shown to them during the campaign. We'll have the same duty and opportunity alike to do the work together. #topoli

Regardless of the outcome, the work is the work. One of the great things about an election cycle is that it focuses our attention, at least ideally, on the problems and the challenges that we have to face and overcome as a city. #topoli

After the votes are counted and the new city council goes to work, those problems and challenges will still be there, and they'll still be ours to tackle. #topoli
