QWOP but it's every continuous parameter in an sdf randomly mapped to some buttons

Oops! All Paperclips@all-paperclips.bsky.social

I could make a python script that extracts all the constants defining cat and attaches them randomly to a handful of buttons. I have no idea what this would look like but I'm confident it would be completely untamable chaos

I hate gay Halloween what do you mean you’re the taxidermied crocodile from Ken Russell’s controversial masterpiece The Devils

Putting together a conference on “tangible computing” — DM if you’d like to give a 10, 20, or 30 minute talk :-) In NYC / late November / early December 🎉

I haven't seen anyone on here suggesting that the PHP vuln was an intentional backdoor installed at the behest of the Mossad, are they posting about this on "X"?

I think in a decade there will be a lot more people building software than there are today, and a majority of them will be able to read code but unable to write without assistance. People will continue to rage against AI slop, and they will also accept it like they accept the nets outside Foxconn

I assume median salaries will go way down, but there's already a huge range between, like, the money someone was getting in a Wordpress factory vs a startup vs a tech company where the equity is worth anything

Periodically a tech Thought Leader will discover "hey, it turns out you can just write the formal spec directly instead of asking the AI to do it" and get dunked on by a bunch of now 48-year olds

wonderful news. Go see Ken Russell's The Devils on the biggest screen you can find, it's a rare treat and a masterpiece

the claude website saying "claude is AI and can make mistakes" instead of "claude is *an* AI and can make mistakes" is a sign of an interesting ongoing revision to our culture's conception of "artificial intelligence"; no longer understood to be a thing, rather a kind of stuff

The name of New Mexico is funny because it's one of those things that you'd think is really simple (oh, it's it used to be part of old Mexico, so we'll call it New Mexico!), but it's much more complex New Mexico as the name for the area predates Mexico by several hundred years!

But, like, New America wouldn't make any sense because this is still the original America and... You know what, forget it

Some people were making me mad on the internet so I wrote a blog post about it. On the different reasons for people have for being left wing and how people manage the psychological tensions of the fact that they come apart. sootyempiric.blogspot.com/2026/10/the-...

You can pay $3500 to see Buckcherry play with a symphony orchestra in Greece; the tour company has also booked Wayne Newton, Ambrosia, and a Beatles tribute act. Wondering about the orchestra that does this and suddenly had vision of Tár 2 trailer set to symphonic version of "Crazy Bitch"

Heard you liked movies about "diggers" that feature an impossible-to-stage lavish theatrical production, set during a period of intense squalor and deprivation

Look, I am very enthusiastic about the mayor, but he's already demonstrated that "you can just do things" is clearly false wrt the NYPD and Netanyahu, and the horse carriage ban was attempted by DeBlasio years ago, succeeeding now partly because a tourist was recently killed

Replying to @doriantaylor.com

also i submit that "weird 'gifted' kid" is kind of a social script; it's how you interface to the normies like you use a word that's too big or something and it makes them feel uncomfortable so you lean into some kind of clown act so they don't feel as threatened; ie "weird" is quasi-performative

I have basically enjoyed every movie I've watched this year, and I believe that makes me "better" than other people who have strongly negative reactions to movies

In an earlier era there would be 20 different blogs scrambling to publish posts titled “The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle” and Letterman would be making one of his crew go into the store and keep asking “ehhhh… how much for the bird?” Videogum would have a “You Can Make It Up”. We used to be a country.

Everyone in creative work for hire knows most of the job is clients asking you for something bad and stupid and you figuring out how to make something completely different while convincing them it's what they asked for. The AI era means everyone gets to see what clients actually want

I think a lot about the scene in Halloween when Laurie Strode is desperately banging on the doors of all her neighbors in white suburbia when she is being stalked by a homicidal maniac. They see her, shut off their porch light and do exactly nothing to help her.
