Bernie Sanders: "I know conservative parents want to raise their kids to be honest, not to be bullies, not to lie and cheat all of the time. If we want to raise our kids to be honest, not to be narcissists who think the world revolves around them, then we need to hold Donald Trump accountable."

this is how you have to treat these guys. with genuine contempt. your genuine contempt makes their smarmy fake contempt look weak and inauthentic. it immediately exposes their game. these guys are just losers who have sworn revenge for every humiliation. humiliate them again

All governments that rely on these “Tech Bros” for their critical infrastructure will eventually find themselves at their mercy.

“The Dutch East India co had a standing army & fought nation-states. Elon is already crossing into this territory w/ geo-political use of Starlink...” - Josh Clemans in 2024 (think he meant it as a compliment, not a criticism; at the time, he was at New Founding—backed by Marc Andreessen) 1/

I enjoyed his lectures on YouTube. He also was very elegant with the chalk as he wrote on the board.

terrible news of Perry Mehrling passing. RIP to a wonderful scholar & teacher who demystified the global financial crisis that wrecked a generation. He has left an oeuvre with a powerful message: Money is a hierarchy of promises & payments, anchored by central bank money sites.bu.edu/perry/lectur...

I heard a side comment from some commentary about the Iran war lately about how there must be other reasons Trump is keeping the war going, besides the obvious reasons, because perhaps he's making some side deals related to the war. I have no financial evidence to point to, but it makes me wonder.

Scott Horton@robertscotthorton.bsky.social

Bloomberg:Career staff at CFTC concluded there was ample evidence to suggest that massive insider trading occurred on commodities transactions around specific points during the Iran War, and they referred the matter for enforcement. Then political appointees demanded that they retract the referrals.

If they understand kill chains in weapons tech then they can understand kill chains in turning off aid

Don Moynihan@donmoyn.bsky.social

Updated this piece on the difference between civic tech and DOGE to reflect new reporting on how DOGErs are monetizing their connections to Silicon Valley. This is the worst example: the DOGErs who blocked USAID life-saving aid have a $1.4B defense startup. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/doge-vs-ci...

the idea that rufo has, at any point in his public career, been a sincere advocate for “colorblind meritocracy” is brain dead

A GOP schism over the Texas candidate Bo French’s social-media post reveals the limits of the party’s defense of a color-blind meritocracy, @jonathanbchait.bsky.social argues.

this is not a problem you can fix with calm, reasoned debate. you can't even fix it by improving people's lives with policy. there is no clear, proven, non-violent solution to this issue. finding one is the most significant problem of our age.

Like we don’t have political disagreements, we have disagreements on the nature of reality

seeing conservative men debate how to dress online is very funny. can't dress up or wear interesting casualwear bc you've made any visible interest in dress to be a sign of homosexuality. but you feel the need to dress better bc you've linked dress to respectability. a prison of your own making.

Blasting NPR.. wow, sounds really scary

Rob Ryan@robryanreviews.bsky.social

“Then the film’s Renée Good stand-in enters, slamming her Subaru into the ICE van. Described with the subtlety of a brick as “MELANIE (40), a fat blue-hair,” the woman, blasting NPR, revs up again and fatally hits ICE agent “Juan” with her car” The wish fulfilment levels are off the scale.

I truly, deeply, sincerely do think the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That's kind of the whole point of having a job and I can't believe this is considered a radical position.🤷🏽‍♀️

I see your "the Republican party's being infiltrated all levels of government & institutions by nazis and the like, of whom would enjoy a sunny day with the kiddos at the combination 'public lynching-pumpkin patch' & experience no inner moral conflict about it" & I raise you "streamer Hasan Piker"

This is scary as hell.

For a certain kind of white man, there is no fear more primal than the fear that the people they have abused will gain power and treat them the same way.

Genuinely I cannot take it. The way the press has ONE STANDARD for everyone but Trump and his goons and then A TOTALLY DIFFERENT STANDARD for them. It’s intolerable, it’s obscene

none of the people calling ossoff sexist think women are biologically capable of flying planes

Adam Serwer@adamserwer.bsky.social

the play here is to make ossoff defensive by calling him sexist, something liberals care about but they don't. The problem is, they *used* to pretend to care and now they're like "let's rip up anti-discrimination law, repeal the 19th and force most women to be homemakers" bsky.app/profile/matt...

Well,I don't know much about this story line at all, but it's a good thing there are a lot of his defenders going out there pretending to care about Harper's dignity. Surely it will tamp down the relevancy of this discourse if they keep it up and totally not egg on Ossoff and others to keep it going
