Like I seriously considered it for like 2 minutes before coming to the conclusion that there is too much philosophical stuff built in to those civ structures that lead to less grimdark and Warhammer was ultimately just some Brits thinking about the Roman Empire's collapse way too much.

If corporations have free speech because they count as people according to SCoTUS they should be subjected to every single law on speech in the book. Not given unlimited freedom. If they own or license chat bots/large LANGUAGE models, same deal except it's robots so be even harsher and stricter.

Finished Book 4 of Lord of Mysteries. Guys, you have to read this freakin thing. Best twist ending and finale I've read in a damn long time. Look I know book 2 is just too damn long, but I promise you the author wrote 2 books in book two. He behaves and only writes one book per book after that.

Book 2 does a massive feat of world building and really establishes a lot of the mechanics as well as what the author DOESN'T want to do in subsequent books quite well. Without it, book 3 and 4 in particular would just be less cool in many ways.

Finished Book 4 of Lord of Mysteries. Guys, you have to read this freakin thing. Best twist ending and finale I've read in a damn long time. Look I know book 2 is just too damn long, but I promise you the author wrote 2 books in book two. He behaves and only writes one book per book after that.

Over all I'd absolutely STILL recommend LoM as a Potter replacement, as good Victorian fantasy, and just over all a good intriguing mysterious world full of weird fantastical stuff. I'm 4 books in and the quality has only increased not decreased. Book 1 and 2 are a bit rough but still serviceable

I'm giving book 2 a lot of flack here but not only is is better than book 1, it does a lot and despite the length delivers a fairly solid narrative and really fleshes out the world build in a way subsequent books don't achieve as handily. This means 3 and 4 are shorter, more focused, but expand less

The writing is pretty easy to read and YA feeling, but at the same time like any good YA writing confronts difficult adult topics and the author (especially in book 2) takes the historical inspiration of his setting very seriously. A lot of stuff back in Victorian England translate to today.

I think in a way the setting helps paper over the authors relative ineptness at lgbtq+ issues, but he's still trying to be empathetic about it. 'It's rude to mock someone for their gender' is literally a line he writes. It's not a big focus. And it's very clear the author levels up book to book.

I swear I'll read normal ass books at some point so I can actually recommend people read them. Idk I'm hard stuck in my light novel era rn. Still a better victorian magic is hidden from normies setting than Potterverse tho. Light years ahead on basically every metric.

It's written by a cis-straight dude, yeah, and it shows, but I think he does eventually find a way to bring up the lgbtq+ implications of 'potion turns you into a woman' way better than polyjuice could ever hope for. I hear the good plot line for this isn't until book 5ish or so tho...

I see people posting top 9 lists of anime. To me this is a foolish endeavor without genre definition. What makes an all around good anime does not make a best in genre. Too many anime to truly put in a top 10 objectively. So it becomes 'what developed me/my taste in anime'.

It boggles the mind that Banana Fish manga was made in the mid 80's/early 90's. It speaks so true to modern politics it's uncanny in it's precision. I guess part of the credit goes to how openly evil things have been for so long.
