Behold: The Dryangle V0.1!* A philosophical model for the most efficient and effective way of drying laundry outside on a washing line or airer, depending on weather conditions. *V0.1 because there are probably more accurate ways to explain the considerations.

I don't knit or crochet (too much counting) but even I want one of these incredible yarn bowls. If you have a crochety/knitty loved one in your life, get one!

I'm packing up orders this week and responding to commission requests! Heads up there are a couple yarn bowl spots left, here's some inspo 💫 #sciart amyraehill.shop/products/cus...

Having a stressful day today. Trying to work from home this aft and am constantly being interrupted by the gas people who are digging up the entire neighbourhood, our driveway, and our gas meter to replace pipes. Meanwhile J is furious at the lack of forewarning and now I'm having to manage him too.

How did the grid react as Storm Austen and Storm Boelo passed through over the weekend? I pulled this together over the weekend. It's part of a new video format that I'm exploring to better explain what's going on within the energy system and the wider context surrounding it (such as the weather).

Tried to get some photos of Dash in his new LED safety collar, but he wouldn't stand still long enough to get a good one. You can just about see the light-up effect extending throughout his ruff, tho. Super cute!

How ironic that Mrs Mayer is none of the things her daughter is. I mean who the hell finds it "an impossible task" to mention 3 things that make their kid special?

Social media is the reason why I have a whole dice bag* of grognard chums I now play TTRPGs with online every week. Since about 2018. We make a tangible difference in each others lives. * What is the collective noun for grognards, anyway?

I quite agree with JL here. I'd very likely would be dead now if I hadn't reached out and talk with likeminded folk on social media, as I'd have been so isolated in real life to the point I'd have committed suicide. So social media literally has been a life saver in that regard.

"This could have been an email." Aragorn whispers. "He ALWAYS pulls this shit in 'Any Other Business" Boromir replies, quietly. "It's why Faramir marked himself as busy when the invite went out."

Elrond tells the long story of the One Ring, from its forging in the Mountain of Fire, to its betrayal of Isildur at the Gladden Fields. Frodo is startled to learn that Elrond himself marched with Gil-Galad in the Last Alliance against Sauron, more than three thousand years ago.

Anyway, here is Bosch that time when he turned himself into a wheel so he could get butt scratches and try and lick me at the same time

Storm Austen frolicking wildly this afternoon. Had an interesting walk with the dog. No Mike, which is understandable. I hope he's hunkering down somewhere and hasn't been carried out to sea in these 61mph winds. Stay safe out there, Northern chums!

"This is my cup of tea. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My cup is my best friend. It is my life. I must fill it as I must fill my life. Without me, my cup is useless. Without my cup of tea, I am useless."

Actual footage of my 2-hour studio teaching Photoshop on Macs during the current PHP hilarity. Some could log in. Some not. Some had Photoshop installed locally (yay!) some not. Some had Wacom drivers that were working, some not. Some could connect to One Drive. Some not. I am now eating my feelings

it's all fun and games on campus today, as AppsAnywhere (our cross-campus tool for getting into service-based software) is down. Probably due to the PHP hilarity. Am teaching Photoshop in half an hour. Via interpretative dance, it would seem.

KLAXXON: I have finished writing the religion in sci-fi lecture! It's taken me about 3 weeks, off and on, to write way too many slides and then to cut them down to a 45 minute presentation and 60 minute discussion. My workload model have me 2 hrs total.

Today's wry laughter: OVO energy call to ask me for a meter reading while trying real hard to get me to agree to a smart meter. I explain the inherent risks of this and the fact that there is no way in hell I'm exposing my energy use to the mercy of some sloppy app. "You might as well stop trying"

The phone operator "Oh there are no risks associated with the smart meter at all!" Me, laughing, "Maybe not, but the app is vulnerable as hell"

University of Nottingham, right now, is cutting 560 jobs. Do we need to rebrand universities as very large, very clean, land-based oil rigs to get government support?

Leo Hickman@leohickman.carbonbrief.org

From the govt's press release: "The developer estimates that Jackdaw will create 27 new direct jobs and safeguard 273 existing jobs that would otherwise be lost." Odd that so much is made about this being good for jobs. Your nearest out-of-town supermarket likely generates more jobs.
