I should talk more about my writing or aspirations thereto, but I'm all random on these sites.

Beware of sources, both online and in print, that claim deep insight into or a continuation of CS Lewis's legacy, but never talk about it in terms of writing craft as commonly understood. It is all eggs in moonshine.

I love C. S. Lewis for the most part but C. S. Lewis scholarship is decidedly Not For Me.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen stay exactly the same in your lifetime? I say rubber bands. They were fine back then and they’re fine now.

"Blunt, quarrelsome conservatism" is an odd take on Lewis, but the second part... 😅

i complain about c s lewis's blunt, quarrelsome conservatism a lot but these things did lead him to write a novel which ends with jrr tolkien beating elon musk to death with a rock so i guess it evens out

I don't know how many of my followers are software developers who know Orthodox liturgy, but I'm sure at least @shadowmanos.bsky.social will get a chuckle out of this. Claude Code produced this gem after I had to make it fix a bunch of places where it had generated the phrase "raise version." 😅

Yup, made the mistake of responding to a political post and was brutally reminded that the Toxic Left that abandoned Twitter when Musk took over all came here. 🤪

Well this is surprisingly accurate. Not sure about the recommended bonus episode, though. That sounds more like my daughter's vibe. 😅

stats report today tells us that 4969 people (nice) have so far been assigned a lingthusiasm episode that matches their personality what if we experienced the joy together of having round number tick over? bit.ly/lingthusiasmquiz

I would develop and launch a website where you could order printed street and highway maps on demand, based on Open Street Maps. They would basically be just like what you used to buy at the store. Because maps are cool, and we need them, even though no one seems to agree with me on this.

Take a break from the discourse and quote this with a business you would want to start if you could afford to lose money on it

Actually, what Facebook really is, at least in the US, is worse. They have a monopoly on person to person advertising, so if you're unable or unwilling to use Facebook, you are locked out of that activity.

Petter Törnberg@pettertornberg.com

Exhibit A: in a recent antitrust filing, Meta argued it isn't a social media monopoly because it isn't really a social media company anymore. Only 7% of Instagram time and 17% of Facebook time is spent on content from friends or followed accounts. The rest is algorithmic video from strangers.

To elaborate on this, Facebook can ban you for completely unrelated reasons, and suddenly you have no viable means by which to buy or sell in private person-to-person transactions. Technically there's Craigslist but no one uses it anymore.

The question isn't whether American civilization is coming to an end. That's pretty clear at this point. The question is, will we collapse from within, or will we be invaded and occupied by a large contingent of foreign nations seeking to protect themselves?
