I did call and got an answering message. They may have been responding to other calls. Might try again on Thursday...

🚨 Labor is about to approve the North West Shelf carbon bomb that will release 4.3 billion tonnes over its 50-year lifespan. We cannot afford this avoidable catastrophic health decision. 📞 Call Minister Watt & ask him to put our health first by rejecting this extension (02) 6277 7320

Climate change is getting serious but the Labor government that has just been voted back in wants to approve Woodside's North West Shelf and destroy Scott's Reef. This only makes sense if we're taxing Woodside heavily for use in mitigation. We should be taxing fossil fuels.

This sounds reasonable. I agree with you Ben, I don't understand why the taxing of unrealised gains is in there. If it is designed to help people not use their super to buy housing then I think I may be all for it, but I'm not sure of the implications on other assets. Would like Labor to explain.

Ben Eltham@beneltham.bsky.social

My view on Labor’s super plans is they’ve let the issue of taxing unrealised gains overtake the bigger picture here, which is that super has been allowed to become an absurd tax-lite wealth haven. Get rid of the unrealised stuff, but go much harder on super earnings for the very rich

Australian COVID-19 cases update: Reported Cases have continued to rise sharply at the national level and in most states & territories. As always, it is hard to be certain with this series; the data quality is very shoddy and the raw data is incredibly spiky. #COVID19 #Australia 🧵

Australia is no stranger to floods & droughts, but seeing both occur simultaneously on opposite sides of the Great Dividing Range is troubling. As our planet warms, these extreme weather events will become more frequent & severe. How much more devastation do our leaders need to see before they act?

If a foreign adversary snuck into our Federal budget and cut science research and education the way we’re cutting it ourselves — strategically undermining America’s long-term health, wealth, and security — we would likely consider it an act of war.

Tip: if someone tells you they're autistic, your first replies shouldn't be "I never would have guessed, you seem so good at social contact!" or "So what's your hypothesis as to why there are so many more autistic people now, please explain!" Instead, think about "Thanks for trusting me!" or "Ok!"

Here it is, finally. The truth. In a landmark #greenwashing legal case brought by @parentsforclimate.bsky.social, #EnergyAustralia has publicly acknowledged that offsets do not undo the harms of burning fossil fuels & apologised to more than 400,000 customers of its carbon #offsetting product

Yes, more of this in Australian schools! I'm always shocked how many people don't understand our system of government and say they were never taught much about it in school. It would be great to see it taught and expanded on in every year of high school #auspol www.abc.net.au/news/2025-05...

Mhmm. I don't know how it is the government think they can just renewable energy their way to net zero and not consider the carbon budget in terms of our emissions and our role as a petro-state.

Larissa Waters@larissawaters.bsky.social

The North West shelf decision will be the Gov’s first test on climate: will they approve the dirty gas carbon bomb of Woodside's Burrup Hub extension? You can't protect the climate or nature by approving a project that would use 91% of the government's net zero 2050 carbon budget.

So, let's talk about why "Keep Politics Out of Games" has and will always be a bad (or idiotic) idea. First and foremost, as I say regularly, you can't. Politics influence the world, which influences your stories, which influences your games. Simple as that. But wait, there's more! 🧵 #TTRPG

Happy #EarthDay! 8 years ago, as we held the largest day of science advocacy in history, I wrote in the @theguardian.com: "Why March for Science? Because when it is attacked, only the elite benefit." These words hold true today. When we stand up for science, we stand up for justice and equality.

Interesting. Interesting. On a related note I bought Wingspan for my sister's birthday last year. Haven't played it yet, definitely keen to give it a go.

RE ‘increasingly supply’, bulldozing bushland for real estate is not the answer to Australia’s complex housing problems. Australians love nature. Around 90% of us live in cities/towns & most of us want MORE nature in cities/towns, not less. #LeadersDebate #auspol #AusVotes2025

It started off being ridiculous and has only ratcheted up from there.

Despite Tesla shares plummeting 35% this year, they still trade at a PE ratio (price to earnings) of 122. That compares to Apple at 34, Microsoft at 32, Amazon at 36, BYD at 33, Ford at 6.6, and GM at 7.6. It’s also 4 times the NASDAQ average. Why do investors see so much upside in Tesla?
