Questions from Sen Shoebridge in #Estimates last night revealed that CASA has been caught napping on Nauru Airlines. Haven't been doing their due diligence on major staffing changes, on safety or the high incidence of flight turnbacks, or on its troubled finances. CASA needs to lift its game fast.

“Large AI firms are shopping around the world trying to sell their snake oil and the price is copyright reform. International creative businesses are looking at Australia and cannot believe the government has been duped.” The Albanese govt isn’t just risking Australian IP. It is exposing the world.

theguardian.comIn a rush to lure AI companies, the Australian government risks undoing a creative ecosystem that has taken decades to build | Dan GuthrieIf proposed copyright reforms proceed, Australia will become a global IP-laundering paradise. Why would a UK business license its TV shows here if they can be scraped at will?

This company Metrea has never worked in Australia before. It's a US-based military contractor, and last year it crashed one of the same aircraft it's planning to acquire for us, killing 4 people. I'd love to know which former minister is lobbying for them...

I don't know how it works (yet), but it's very weird that a handful of companies that don't even own their own planes somehow land MOST of the large govt contracts, while operators that could win them aren't even asked to tender. The game of mates is very strong. If you know more: nickfeik@proton.me

Maybe the new head of the NACC could take a peek at this one. The air charters industry in Australia (in which Home Affairs and Defence funnel billions of our $$ to "brokers") is cooked...

Far out. These financials are dire. Quick, let’s override every legal, moral, regulatory and environmental objection and hitch our economy to it…

I’m going to hold Chalmers, Albanese and the other Labor AI boosters personally responsible when the coming financial crash smashes our economy too. So deeply irresponsible to encourage and enmesh ourselves with these ponzi economics

*finger to ear, beside the newscopter* I’m getting word in now. One moment. Yes I can exclusively report that it’s time to turn down the temperature…. Sorry, you’ll have to speak up

AI revenues need to triple every year for the next 4 years or so to justify current capital spending, but they are already flattening

Nauru Airlines update: Since I published, yet another craft has been grounded, and their schedules are in chaos bc only one plane is trying to cover all commercial routes. Airline is selling tickets it can't fulfil; people stranded all over. Here is the same flight leaving twice, an hour apart.

Someone (ie you) is paying for the offshore immigration contractors being delayed, diverted daily as a result of Nauru Airlines failures. Home Affairs has so far refused to answer basic questions about contingencies & cost overruns. DFAT also refusing to answer qs about its Nauru Airlines contracts.

Recently, the remaining Nauru Airlines aircraft available for commercial flights left dozens of people (incl Aust government contractors) stranded in Nauru for days while it took a bunch of Nauruan VIPs for a holiday in Vietnam for a 21st birthday party. I kid you not. Who paid for that? You did.

I heard from a prospective postgraduate student this week who was about to travel to study here last week when suddenly the (federal 'labor') government banned international masters students from bringing family with them, and he had to cancel (already invested quite a lot of time and scarce funds)

The utter, utter stupidity … Cratering our higher education sector, with regional areas hit hardest, to pander to One Nation immigration politics. They pegged uni finances on intl students, and then started attacking the student visa intake.

Jason Clare must be enjoying presiding over the wholesale smashing of universities, because he’s doing absolutely nothing useful to stop it.
