i always have to laugh when a (machine knitting) session involves a screwdriver, an oily wrench, a hundred tiny poky needles, and thin springy wires that could take someone's eyes out

I'm very please to announce a public release of my drag-and-drop bookmarking, game-making, and wandering tool Scrubjay! Scrubjay is a weird website builder that lets you cobble together web elements, images, links, text fragments, etc into a series of nested rooms...

wonder if there exists a month-long challenge to try a different knitting/fiber arts technique each day! you could do swatches each day, experimenting with cables, colorwork, lace, cast-on/cast-off techniques, increase/decrease techniques… 🧶

I’m still so proud of this little book. If you read it, I hope it’s useful to you. And I’ve said it before, but if you’d like a copy but don’t feel you can swing the purchase right now—shipping costs, how your budget’s looking this month, whatever—just send me an email. We’ll figure it out. ❤️‍🔥

Labo(u)r Day is a good time to remind folks about YOU DESERVE A TECH UNION by @ethanmarcotte.com — collective organizing and worker power is maybe *especially* important for these industries that shape all of our lives, especially now. ethanmarcotte.com/books/you-de...

Lately, we've been going down a rabbit hole of data about place names in the US. Here, we can take our New England town establishment data into Rowboat and do two cool things: see a detailed county map and play it over time to see the northward spread of towns in the area, all in just 15 seconds.

Yesterday marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of Miles Davis. A little over a decade ago, Mark's passion for jazz developed into one of our all-time favorite projects: Scaled in Miles.

i thought up 7–8 criteria that typically influences my decision to play a game or how i feel while playing the game. i went through a list of ~68 games i have logged and rated them on a scale of 1 to 4 for each. lower numbers generally = cozy, relaxing; higher numbers generally = challenging.

i only got to go to XOXO 2024, but the amount of heart and dedication and joy and community and love i saw from everyone involved continues to make me want to cry. much appreciation and gratitude to all the beautiful things that happened there, especially the ones i have no way of knowing about 💗

One last thing before we go. Today, after 2+ (or 10+??) years of work, we’re launching XOXO Explore, a complete archive of all eight years of the festival. xoxofest.com
