Folks, I give you the Canadian Taxpayers Federation: “"If we give MHAs a 23% salary increase … Are we going to get a 23% improvement in education or health care?” No dumbass, because you aren’t increasing those budgets by 23%. Are you familiar with how budgets work? www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

cbc.caUnnecessary or overdue? Debate swirls over whether MHAs should get $22k raise | CBC NewsWhile prices for pretty much everything continue to rise, Newfoundland and Labrador’s MHAs haven’t seen a pay raise since 2009, and the Members' Compensation Review Committee says it’s time for that ...

Senator Schiff appears to be emulating the Republican strategy of "just say what you want, it doesn't matter if it's true or if it even makes sense"

Without American wine on Canadian shelves, Canadians are also missing out on tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue they would obtain from selling our wine.

15% point difference between the party that gets to govern & the party that got wiped out.

I know the main headline here is PQ back in power and possibly a referendum to follow, but the 1a headline is absolutely that first past the post is not a great fit for politics in Quebec (and other provinces) at the moment.

U.S. Friends: You can stop talking to us. It all rings very hollow. Talk to your own government clearly & directly. We’ll respect you more.

If walking costs you $1, we all pay $0.01. If biking costs you $1, we all pay $0.08. If bussing costs you $1, we all pay $1.50. If driving costs you $1, we all pay $9.20. Via study that still underestimates climate cost. This isn’t about choice. It’s about who pays for your choice. #citymakingmath

Two ideas, held at once: 1. Playoff expansion is bad for the regular season and makes the playoffs a slog. Eight teams is best. 2. The next 36 hours are a lot of fun. Enjoy the games, everyone.

I was going to watch the baseball, but Old Hoss Radbourn isn’t pitching, hitting, & preparing a whole pig for the team’s dinner, so ….

I was prepared to sit and watch 13 or 14 straight hours of baseball tomorrow but with both the White Sox and Astros going with a bullpen game I believe I'll be giving that one a miss. If I want spring training I'll go to Arizona in February.

He’s back, again. Fresh off of last year’s run for mayor, former MP Rahim Jaffer is now running for the UCP nomination in Edmonton-North West. The riding is currently represented by NDP MLA David Eggen, a longtime MLA who was first elected in 2004. rahimjafferucp.ca

Replying to @stewartprest.ca

Voters will have to conclude there's another reason, and the obvious explanation is the NDP decided to place fast and loose with democratic conventions to extend their time in office by a couple of years—and It's hard to convince voters the other guys are the antidemocratic problem when you do that.

Kelly Blidook reposted

An underlying problem for the NDP in BC, and it's a possibly fatal one, is that the decision to call an election to keep Conservatives out of power is paradoxical, since the NDP could have accomplished the feat by not having an election. That cannot be the reason by definition.

There is always opportunism in politics & Canadians are used to leaders playing games with elections. But what Eby did here is beyond what most will accept - not surprised if it makes otherwise potential supporters hate him.

Reminds me of popular group in grade 4 & 5, but by grade 6 it was way more stable.

John Rustad tells @katiederosa.bsky.social that he was kicked out of BC Conservative twice in 12 hours: once by text from Findlay Thursday night, which was rescinded also by text 15 mins later, then out again on Friday along with Trevor Halford and Claire Rattée.

If Canadians want their MPs to have less power & to be more beholden to their party leaders, then they should support such legislation. If they want to elect MPs that can exert influence & make choices based on what electors want, then they should say no to this idea.

The only way to prevent floor crossing is for Parliament to pass legislation requiring MPs who switch parties to resign their seats and run again in a byelection, says former Conservative Senate leader and party president Don Plett. www.hilltimes.com/2026/09/07/a...

Good time to remind folks that if you don’t need to service your car at the dealer, you are paying way too much by taking it there.

Jason Wright@astrowright.bsky.social

Having bought two EVs and a hybrid, I think a big part of America’s sloth in adopt adopting EVs is car dealerships’ management being heavily Republican, and having a business model that relies on repairs that EV‘s don’t need.

I enjoy a good hotdog, & I will enjoy some very cheap, somewhat gross food, but the hotdogs on Loonie Dog Night are disgusting & not worth what you pay IMO. It is gross that they are celebrating eating any amount of that food.
