It's very, very telling, I think, that the markets are so concerned about the pro-democracy incumbent winning

One more BC thread. The NDP are going to spend a lot of time figuring out what went wrong. I think Eby never found his stride as premier, and the path to leadership was where things started to go wrong. Eby wasn't used to being the bad guy, but the disqualification of Appadurai did not go over well.

Good thread with one addition: I think Eby defaulted to backroom politicking over making the public case. It wasn't just the disqualification but how he took on many files. While that can work as a Minister, it ultimately undermines a Premier who needs to be seen as open and accountable.

David Eby’s Colossal Miscalculation Hands Election to BC Conservatives @Dave_Eby screwed up. Bad decision to call a snap election. @stewartprest.ca explains why. Also discusses tension within @Conservative_BC between traditional cons and populists. #bcpoli youtu.be/Ub3NghiarX8

Pens down, heads up! Voting has ended in BC, and now we wait for the votes. Advance polls may come in quickly, but could be a long night for the close hand-counted results.
I'll be watching the results roll in and talking about them on CityNews tonight, so feel free to follow along there! vancouver.citynews.ca/video/

Whenever members have direct control over leadership choice (as opposed to delegated leadership selection models) this becomes difficult to enforce in practice. Parties are whatever its members want, and many UCP members want it to be a separatist party. www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/alber...
