Mississippi, which is approximately 38% Black, has elected a grand total of TWO Black representatives to Congress since the end of reconstruction: Rep. Mike Espy in the 1980s and Rep. Bennie Thompson.

NEW: U.S. House Rep. Bennie Thompson's "reign of terror" in Mississippi "is over," Gov. Tate Reeves says, urging the ousting of the state's only Black member of Congress through redistricting before the end of 2027. He made that pronouncement even as he canceled a special session on redistricting.

Just 5 days ago, Trump didn't know why he signed a pardon for Binance founder Changpeng Zhao when asked by the press. Trump: "I don't know. He was recommended by a lot of people." bsky.app/profile/atru...

Mike Johnson claims that Biden's pardons are "invalid on their face. I used to be a constitutional litigator. I would love to take this case and go into the court and make that way to set the precedent. You can't allow a president to check out and have unelected people making massive decisions."

Three important stories that may have flown under the radar over the weekend: 1. The Trump administration is preparing a plan that would make it harder for older Americans to qualify for Social Security disability payments www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

washingtonpost.comTrump plan would limit disability benefits for older AmericansTrump administration officials are considering eliminating age as a factor in deciding whether someone is capable of working.

By moving ATF/DEA/FBI/etc. agents to immigration enforcement, Trump is creating a largely unaccountable, loyal force that will be accustomed to disregarding constitutional rights when he inevitably calls upon them to oppress citizens and disrupt elections.

It is as if our government has decided that there is no crime in the country worth pursuing other than immigration enforcement.

sorry I can't get over how cynical this is. dude *just* voted for a bill that was pushed by the crypto lobby and left out any protections against Trump's corruption. *now* he's claiming to address the issue with a bill that will never pass? this is galling even by modern Dem standards

Sen. Adam Schiff@schiff.senate.gov

Donald Trump and other senior administration officials have made a fortune off of crypto schemes. Today, I'm introducing the COIN Act to put a stop to this corruption in plain sight. youtu.be/4zOtklEunwE

Anyone who thinks the cruelty we see from ICE can only be explained by J6ers hasn't been paying attention. This is what ICE has always been. You are hearing about it now because major media is finally putting it on the front pages. Absence of coverage does not mean absence of abuses.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

After months, I remain unconvinced by this theory. That DHS is acting extremely unprofessionally is not evidence of secret J6ers. Rather, I believe it reflects longstanding culture problems within ICE, a chaotic multi-agency approach to raids, the corroding effects of quotas, and Miller’s extremism.

Project 2025 (p. 178) calls for the State Dept. to "evaluate" F and J visas to ensure the programs are "consistent with White House immigration policy" and "national security obligations"

This isn’t just a suspension of new student visa interviews, it’s also all new interviews for exchange visitors. Many exchange visitors work at summer camps and other similar programs. This could have an immediate impact on many American businesses as well, not just higher ed.
