Okay, my follower count and mix on here is now such that I need to say this: If you know me in real life, no you don't. If you saw me at a place I can routinely be found, no you didn't. Thank you for understanding.

One of the author spambots finally made it through my attempts to obfuscate my contact information. However, that is not my name, and that is not one of my books.

Good news! Bluesky fixed their SWERF move.

some folks reported not being able to use certain adult-focused platforms (like onlyfans and fansly) — there was an internal miscommunication and these were accidentally added to the list of disallowed domains. this is now fixed! but you may need to refresh your app to get the update. 💙

Someone came by my table today, read this sign, and said "Well now I know who not to buy from!" Lol. Lmao. Jolly good, off you fuck!

Good Day everyone. It has been a while since I have been on here. I wanted to share the #photo I got of an American Kestrel in my neighborhood with the nearly full #Moon in the background. Other photos at ScottWGonzalez.com DM for prints #birds #falcon #EastCoastKin #Art

I would love for us to coalesce around a NaNo replacement community, but obviously this ain't it. I don't know what this is, except "not it." Will dig in on it later.

So, wait, has NaNoWriMo rebranded as "Novel November", paid for by ProWritingAid, which used to be a spell/grammar checker but now is (you guessed it) an "'AI' grammar checker"--in short, yet another way for a griftslop machine to grab human-written text? Do I have that right?

Wait...I've definitely seen or can imagine most of these, but what is the alternative to "brass tacks"

Merriam-Webster@merriam-webster.com

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s ‘sleight of hand’ -It’s ‘bated breath’ -It’s ‘lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s ‘brass tacks’ -It’s ‘free rein’ -It’s ‘toe the line'

There's an xkcd for everything, but especially this.

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

I think it's possible that a certain density of capos within a household, say 5 or 10, automatically spawns in some kind of Capo Gremlin who eats them. Or stashes them away like a squirrel hiding nuts for winter.

I love the human equivalent of a sleeper car. Someone unassuming who just turns around and knocks your socks off. The old guy in flannel who shuffles up at karaoke and slays Sinatra. The bouncer who casually contributes some insightful theory of mind shit to your half-drunk conversation. Love it.

At some point in this campaign, I started referring to recurring honk & wave events as "The Honk." As in "I'll see you at the Honk." I'm afraid this may never work itself back out of my vocabulary.

Throw them in the pile with the three-year cycles of "When did Green Day get all political"

all these dorks shocked to discover that Tom Morello isn’t a lib and that James Hatfield is a chud are about thirty years behind the curve

I've noticed a thing lately. It used to be that if an elderly man started talking to me out of nowhere, it was going to be creepy and/or hostile. Lately, they have all been nice. Either A. I've aged out of being creeped on, or B. The current crop of elderly men is kinder than the previous one.

Doing the math, the men in their 70s now are of a generation that came of age during major steps of social revolution, so actually, maybe that just...worked as intended. The crop of old men I grew up being harassed by were mostly war vets still mad about feminism.

I've noticed a thing lately. It used to be that if an elderly man started talking to me out of nowhere, it was going to be creepy and/or hostile. Lately, they have all been nice. Either A. I've aged out of being creeped on, or B. The current crop of elderly men is kinder than the previous one.

Today a man started talking to me in a store, and reflexively prepared myself for the inevitable "Why would you do that to your hair, you could be very pretty." Instead we had a polite and vaguely philosophical conversation and I got to hang out with his elderly dog for a minute. It was lovely.

I'm in a lot of pain today, and I admit that it may be making me a little bristly, but I just picked up new windshield wipers and the guy at the counter asked "Do you need me to install those for you?" and I almost responded "You're fucking kidding, right?"

I don't know if it was a gender thing, but the fact that he said "need" instead of "want." For windshield wipers. I looked at him funny and said "No, I think I can handle it" and left it at that, but the temptation to drag him outside and show him everything I've done to my car was strong.

I did something unusual at karaoke tonight (sang some Jewel) and I kinda killed it but also may have shot my voice. That woman is a beautiful beast and I will fight anyone who disagrees. Guitar! Yodeling! She has superpowers.

You know, I use a cane because it helps me stay upright and all that, but it's amazing how useful it is sometimes just to *have a stick.* Can't reach something? Stick. Object gross and you don't want to touch it? Stick. Need to smack someone and make it look like an accident? Stick.

Got my ballot today. Don't love this, but I'm thinking about some of the horror stories I've been hearing from teachers...and wondering if some of the current crop of Newly 18s are going to have difficulty parsing it or filling it out.

I don't think The Kids™ are dumb. I've met plenty of 18-24s who are fucking brilliant. But even younger teachers are telling me that too many of their kids just stare at paper questions until someone gives them the answer, and when it comes to ballots, no one is going to.

I don't have "anxiety," you bot-peddling buffoon. I just hate you.

This Michael's is demonstrating blatant disrespect for screenprinters. (The employee I asked about it was really nice and says they're working on it.)

There are many reasons the state should not kill people. The fact that they can so horrifyingly fuck it up does not even top the list. But if that's enough to set people against it, then I guess let's make this the biggest fucking news story of the hour. This should never have happened.

Computers have always been so dumb as to be funny, but I've noticed a definite uptick in "new kinds of stupid" since vibecoding came in.

And I can't share this one without doxxing myself, but my doctor's office login now requires that my username have upper- and lowercase letters and a number. There are no such requirements for the password.

Question: Do any of you use Zyn, and if so, would you care to impart any 101-level wisdom? Please understand that this is a former smoker, current low-dose vaper, looking to take a next step sort of thing, so if you're going to say "Don't start," you'll have to go tell me in 2004.

You know what I really hate? When my friends don't have health insurance. Especially when the situation is "I could come get you and bring you to a doctor but we're not going to do that because bankrupcy." I can always scrape up some food or gas or clothes, but not high-level health care.

The thing about being disabled is that sometimes it's just disappointing. Ableism is real, but a lot of things aren't the result of ableism. They're just laws of physics or natural limits of resources, including the ability to communicate or expend energy. It sucks. But it isn't anyone's fault.

Is this post mostly about how I failed at leaving myself enough energy for something I really wanted to do? Yeah. But it's also about the people. Both the ones who were happy to see me for just a minute, and the ones that won't get to know me better because I just can't be present long enough.

Somewhat tempted to set my browser to replace the word "AI" with "slop," but I'm not sure it would be good for my mental health to read "How Slop is Destroying the Job Market" or "Slop Linked to Psychosis"

Very nearly started sorting my movies by genre today, but was once again foiled by "What defines a musical? Is Drumline a musical? Is Suckerpunch? WHAT IS A MUSICAL?"

Mitch McConnell disappeared for three months & kept his full salary. Disabled people are forced to prove they’re “still disabled” just to remain in legislated poverty. Folks on SNAP must re-apply and prove they’re “still poor”. Republican Senators don’t even have to prove they’re alive.

If I made a shirt that said "Vote your hearts or die," would that be: A: An audience-friendly natural extension of my politics and subculture, or B: Eyeroll-inducing high high hopes bullshit
