Let Epic host its SlopFest. There will be a small percentage of participants who, agree with it or not, will come with original ideas. The large majority, however, will not. The outcome will be 50% anime titty sims and 50% clones of existing games. And the cynic in me loves the idea of this.

This could end badly for him, because he either: 1) shows off a stolen game that’s big enough for lawyers to take note 2) proves that AI can only be used to steal content and/or create unappealing slop and he’ll present these on a global stage. It could be incredibly damaging, and I can’t wait

Tim Sweeney needs to prove a point here, and being the narcissistic snivelling man he his, he’ll want to show off the best games from the jam. Best in his mind will be the bombastic rip-offs and soulless graphic showcases.

With this and the recently reported PS6 memory price, surely we should sack these consoles off and focus on making more games for the current gen? We don’t need more power. The games look stunning as they are. The only reason to push for more power is for AI super-sampling bullshit that no one wants

Xbox’s next console, Project Helix, is targeting a 2028 launch and could cost between $1,200 and $1,800, according to a new report, “unless Microsoft decides to subsidize the cost.” www.videogameschronicle.com/news/report-...

Do people just not fucking read things any more? There’s plenty of shit to get mad about, and basing outrage on the social media snippet alone isn’t one of them.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer was made by a core team of 75 people. "What we wanted to do was keep that core small, smaller than perhaps you might have done in the past, and scale capacity and capability with what we call distributed development." https://bit.ly/4hT02qg

All of the pro-AI conversations are from a capitalist mindset and never from someone creative. The focus is the product, and being able to create the product quicker is a bonus. The *process* is where the good stuff happens.

It could be something that happened that day, or something you remembered seeing years ago. It could be purely based on feeling. Regardless, it constantly changes as you work on it.

All of this is absent when creating with AI because it doesn’t afford you the luxury of spending time and being in the moment with whatever you’re creating. It’s a race to the product.

The product evolves during the process and if you skip it entirely, you end up with the slop we’re seeing at the moment; The A -> B. True creativity is pulling on experience, and not explicitly experience linked to the subject matter.

Played Galactic Racer last night. Enjoyed it, but it didn’t completely grab me. Woke up this morning and all I wanted to do was play it. It’s somehow got its hooks in me. Playing this evening with headphones on, and damn! The sound design is incredible. The UI is stunning too. Good shit!

My copy is on its way and I’m hyped af! It’s my most anticipated game of the year
