There should be more songs about getting back in the game to burn off your shame, and ~dance with the big boys again~

It’s time to have the Amanda Seyfried Oscar conversation. The obvious question being: Is whatever she’s doing in her latest movie the kind of thing that could even be recognized by the Academy?

Watched the Eagles and Liverpool games on adjacent TVs, which raised an interesting philosophical question about the more embarrassing way to lose: to be comprehensively demolished, or to have victory in your grasp then toss it away at the very last second

The 2027 Oscars race is shaping up to be a story of ‘The Odyssey’ versus everyone else. But as tempting as it is to imagine a Best Picture result set in stone, history tells us that there will always be a few surprises along the way.

Tom Cruise is facing abysmal reviews of his new film, ‘Digger,’ even if critics still praise his performance in it. If the movie flops, can he still win an Oscar in 2027? ‘Gold Rush’ columnist Nate Jones sketches out his chances.

Just finalized my MFL roster! Real stars and scrubs vibes, and I will surely regret drafting 4 docs, but here's what I landed on:

Here are the 2026 movies and performances we’d love to see get a big Oscars push. Some are festival titles (like ‘Possible Love’), others are early-season films (like ‘Send Help’). All of them deserve voters’ attention.

Miles Teller was the golden boy of my college class, so I can't tell you how weird it is to see him play a middle-aged dad in PAPER TIGER. Even worse, he has been groomed and styled to look disturbingly like ... me!

A movie that asks: What if we calibrated every decision for maximum annoyance, on purpose?

Ed Sheeran has released a statement on Macklemore being removed from his tour for speaking up for Palestine: “I am not complicit. […] Just because I choose not to speak publicly, it doesn't mean I don't have [my own opinions], and it doesn't mean I don't care.”

There was one moment near the end that made me go, "If Florian Zeller is indeed a total hack, here is how the next five minutes will go." And then the next five minutes went exactly as I feared.

Bilge Ebiri@bilgeebiri.bsky.social

As someone who liked Florian Zeller’s much-despised THE SON, I was looking forward to his latest, BUNKER, starring Javier Bardem & Penelope Cruz. Alas… www.vulture.com/article/revi...

I thought this was going to be Lee Chang-dong's THE INVITE, but it turned out more like Mike Leigh's PARASITE.

What’s the best film at the Venice Film Festival this year? According to Vulture critic Bilge Ebiri, it’s ‘Possible Love,’ Lee Chang-dong’s masterful epic about class, labor, envy, and marriage.

George Clooney's career achievement montage at the Venice opening ceremony began with footage of him watching a similar montage in JAY KELLY and ended, bizarrely, with him drifting off into space to die in GRAVITY.

The conductor on this Amtrak train just told us that passengers in the cafe car must have their shoes on at all times, which felt pointed.

There’s some renewed interest in The Process, so here’s my timeline refresher. The Sixers are currently in what I call late-stage Process. It doesn’t end until Embiid is gone. Welcome LeBron. It’s been a journey.

There is a lot to say about the Nolan Odyssey movie. But one point that I think has not been emphasized enough is: this is a film about living in LA, as Nolan, my erstwhile British compatriot and age mate, has done for years. I gather it’s a strange place.
