Kamala Harris: I think that going in the direction of impeachment is not a good idea. I was in the Senate for the last go-round, and the votes aren’t there. I think after the election, we all have to just also agree that our attitude has to be to get stuff done…

The ICC must be free to pursue its mission, independently, and without pressure or intimidation. Europe stands firmly behind President Tomoko Akane, the Court's judges and officials, and their vital work for a world governed by rules.

Good luck negotiating with the zombie of transatlanticism.

POLITICO Europe@politico.eu

The EU's top diplomat Kaja Kallas has said that Brussels would use the next months "to open dialogue" on how to counter U.S. sanctions against the International Criminal Court β€” resisting calls from lawmakers to take quicker action.

Here's a question for Kallas - what would the EU be willing to sacrifice (from the ICC) to negotiate an end to these sanctions? What's the play? Pressuring the Court to end investigations (that'll do wonders for impartial justice and the Court's reputation)?

A pinky-promise from the ICC not to investigate Trump & Co.? Does the Court get a say here? How can you speak for the PTC, for example? Also, see above regarding impartiality.

Reading the ICC sanctions order and yes, I know how the law is working here, but sanctioning the ICC under EO 14203 section 1(a)(ii)(A) just reads funnily. The ICC is being sanctioned because it "directly engaged in any effort by the ICC to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute..."

Generally stand by my notes from last year, with a caveat that there have been (some) promising developments on point 2. Kyle Reed πŸŸ₯@kylereed.bsky.social

Quick thoughts on the latest ICC sanctions news. 1. The sanctions are a fundamental threat to the Court and it's clear they're already undermining the system. 2. The muted response by the ICC state parties is perhaps (I'd argue, definitely) even more damning for the future of the Court.
