Hey new followers 👋🏻 let me offer an intro: I'm a software dev, scratch golfer, occasional DIY/woodworker & I'm AuDHD. While I'll post anything related to the above, most of my content is either coding or relatable, observational humor I use to cope with life. Glad you're here & please be kind.

When they gather statistics on how many people have been displaced by AI, someone like me probably won't show up in the data. Was I officially let go due to AI taking my job. No, not at all. But was I let go due to how miserable I was using AI the way we were? Absolutely a part of it.

Well... might be figuring out what's next after tech faster than I thought. Was just let go. Genuinely don't know what I'll do. Think I might have another tech job in me, but it's highly dependent on how much product ownership I have. Think I can do a lot of other things, but can I make a living?

Lamented with a coworker today that the period a year ago where AI was mostly just a slightly better autocomplete was peak. Not only was it enjoyable because you were still in the driver’s seat, but you were still building understanding as you wrote the code. Now, no one understands shit.

The thing that is killing me with work is that there's no place where my input actually matters. Was moved from a platform role to a product IC role a while back. My job now is to just take what the PM wants & make it. I am a digital construction worker. I don't need vision or creativity for this.

I feel like I’m just playing a dumb game of telephone between agents and people now.

The only time my input matters at all in the equation is when something goes wrong. Sorry, the game of AI telephone didn't go how you expected. Please blame me and not the fact that we're playing fucking whack-a-mole with word guessers and hoping for good outcomes.

Was given what seemed to be a small feature to add and a week to do it. Gave Claude the docs from the PM and let it go. I now have 24K LOCs I must foist upon my colleagues for review. This is insane. You used to get a month to write and review this much. Maybe more.

Doc sends prescription to pharmacy. Insurance company says they need pre authorization to cover it. Presumably, the doctor prescribing it _is_ the authorization! We need universal healthcare so badly. Non-medical professionals should not have this kind of power.

I just don't understand how others are finding joy when work has gone from "do the work to solve the problem with your brain and reap the satisfaction" to "just use the cheat sheet for everything". It's not crazy to find joy in acquiring new skills and learning.

Multiple times a day I say or think, “Somebody shoot me already.” Figuratively, to be clear. Babysitting LLMs makes me miserable. All the things that made coding a joy are gone. All that’s left, at least in my case, are the parts that suck ass.

Have you been making websites for years? How are you feeling about the current state of things?

I was moved on to our marketplace team a while back and I'm still wrapping my head around some of the vernacular. One word that I never clock correctly the first time is "vertical". Why use "vertical" when "market" or "industry" are right there?

Feels like every life change I'm considering comes with the following questions: - How poor am I willing to be? - For how long am I willing to be poor? - Am I ok if said poverty is permanent?

I left X *because* I had a large following. People told me I was the reason they were staying on there, and I didn’t want to be responsible for 100k+ people sticking around for abuse, CSAM, and Nazis. Simple as that

I left x despite having a large following bc I don’t want to make free content for the world’s wealthiest racist. It’s not worth it to me.

I need to figure out how to take a puzzle to the bar. I love a happy hour, puzzles are lowkey great, and I think it could be the kind of thing that sparks people to join, make conversation, etc. 🤔

I’ve been trying to rest this week, so I haven’t pushed myself to get much done, but like most of us, I’m way behind on all sorts of things. Mostly chores and administrivia. I’ve come to the conclusion that I need ~3 months to catch up on everything. There’s just too much to do.

You know the quote, “never argue with a dumb person. They’ll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience”? I really need to get better at anticipating when that’s about to happen because it’s so true.

Finally finished a big project on a tight dead line and I’m so stressed out from it my manager told me I’m taking next week off. Cool, cool.

Life kind of feels like this right now: Them: You don’t seem happy. Me: I’m not. Haven’t been since ~2012. Them: Well, do you think you’d be happier somewhere else? Me: *looks out at a decimated, barren wasteland* No.

Do you ever just know you’re going to die younger than you should because the circumstances you’re stuck in. As I sit here each day for more hours than I want or should, constantly stressed & burnt out, largely for things beyond my control as an autistic person, I can just feel the years vanishing.

*heart Literally have dealt with palpitations at times in recent years because of stress and anxiety. And my resting heart rate used to be in the 50s, not it's high 60s, low 70s. Yay.

Being audhd, I largely need to stimulate the fuck out of myself to get through a day. So it’s either stress my heart out with drugs or do it with caffeine. Then I need some downers at night, so a couple beers it is. All so I can function in a world that punishes me for every autistic thing I do.

Been trying for years to get my blood pressure down a tick, and I can’t. I just can’t do enough exercise or get enough stress or anxiety out of my life. I can feel my hear get weaker as I wane here. I have 25 more years to work and it feels like I won’t even live that long these days.

There need to be more things you can do solo that are enjoyable and create social opportunities. On my own this weekend, quickly burned thru my ever shortening list of friends and all said no to doing anything. I could exercise free will I suppose, but nothing would be different but my location.

lol if the conservatives want to take away my ADHD medication, I refuse to be held responsible for all the incredibly dumb things that will happen next

Is there anything more annoying than Claude writing code, and then Claude finding bugs in Claude’s code, and having to tell Claude to fix Claude’s mistakes based on Claude’s feedback?

Today alone, I've had to hear colleagues present three separate ideas that I already presented months ago and get yesses where I got nos. Do you know how frustrating it is to live life like a DnD character with a -10 modifier on persuasion checks?!

I'm probably an outlier, but I feel less productive in the age of AI because I'm not actively doing as much as I used to. Now, I just have many annoyingly slow conversations. It's like chatting with someone in far off in space where there's a long delay between messages.

I wish I could talk about chronic depression the way you can about chronic physical pain. I can say to someone, “my knee is having a flare up” and that would be ok. But say “my depression is having a flare up” and that’s problematic. I’ve been depressed for 30 years, what do you want from me?

I have a rough calculation of cost that aggregates in each Claude session as I go. Yesterday, brand new session, asked Claude to rebase a branch on main and fix the one simple conflict. Cost over $2 and 10 minutes to do something I could have done myself in a ~1min. What are we doing?!
