It's been years since I read the book and my feelings on it are mixed if loosely positive so I don't begrudge anyone's takes on the series as a whole and honestly this episode might not even be a functional piece of a Carrie story idk but DAMN is that exactly what it feels like to be alive today

Reading the Twilight books for the first time in 2026 is so funny, fully half of New Moon so far is entirely redundant if you already know werewolves exist in this universe

Twilight does not have this problem imo, there is genuine relationship building and conflict between Bella and Edward and knowing he's a vampire just makes it dramatic irony instead of suspense. The arc so nice we wrote it twice simply does not have the same juice.

(I am trying hard to atone for the sin of making hating Twilight my whole personality for like 5 years but this installment is unfortunately making it clear that I am in many ways still the thirteen-year-old who read the first book and was like "eh, that's enough of that")

Just gonna say, I have not once in the last week regretted putting my phone in a fucking box and moving my body, going outside, or sitting in a dark room to watch a movie with strangers, and any of those that you love and have access to and may have been neglecting... recommend.

I think what I resent the most is that all of us, especially the women who worked with him, were a part of his rehabilitation (at least image-wise) without us ever getting to choose if that was something we wanted to participate in. He didn't let us or his audience make a choice. How ironic.

+ YES it's unrealistic and not a neutral act to always solve it with "there's a good reason he was like that, we fixed it, it is now 100% safe to act on your attraction" + that doesn't have to be for you but it's not that hard to understand why it's compelling to explore in a controlled environment

Is it? Is it that hard to understand? Apparently it is? idk hopefully better articulated and more coherent thoughts on shadow daddies and the equal and opposite popularity thereof and vitriol therefore coming in the eventual video, enjoy this preview I guess

I am as surprised as anyone that this is the most fun I've had reading a romantasy book in over a year (been digging into this for research since like February 2025). The way I've seen people talk about this thing I was expecting it to be pulling teeth in the highest order but y'all, it's fine!

I get what it is people don't like about it, obviously, but like, the experience of knowing a man SUCKS and the way he treats you isn't OK and still being attracted to him and having to figure out how to square that circle is not an uncommon one and it's fertile ground for interesting fiction!!

Alexander Skarsgård plays a basket who fucks: cool, whatever, happy for the inanimate object romance girlies, maybe I'll stream it at some point, who knows Alexander Skarsgård plays a basket who fucks Olivia Colman: STOP THE PRESSES I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE SEATED

Also I find it super interesting that horror rooms with simple puzzles where the difficulty comes from needing to keep a cool head in the face of scary stuff generally don't get similarly marketed as "more like a haunted house." They just say they're low difficulty, high scare escape rooms!

Obviously there are enthusiasts who mainly want tough puzzles and it's good to be clear about what a particular experience does and does not entail, but imo if you're interacting with even simple puzzles that give you "keys" that open "locks" in order to progress, it's an escape room! Cut and dry!

"Escape room" is also a thing I think the average person has a clearer reference for than "immersive theater," so I'd argue that language closer to "escape room with simple puzzles and a strong focus on story" is gonna be clearer to most people than "immersive narrative" or "guided adventure"

I was really hoping to have this thing done significantly before now because, like, the whole point was to play with something I could be less precious about while plodding through the early stages of two monster projects but it turns out even quick things move slow when you're multitasking, no way!

Nothing against these books for anyone who likes them but I had approximately 0.25 fun with the first one and that's simply not enough when there are so many books in the world! People I love who actually like them can tell me what happens and have opinions for me, it's fine!

I genuinely would have considered going to sit in the back and quietly observe if anyone else started shit if that did not seem like the quickest recipe I've ever concocted for being recognized in public and starting shit purely by my presence. Maybe tooting my own horn, who's to say. I didn't go.

Doesn't offset how annoying the process is but it does always feel at least a little good when they bother giving you the "[heavy sigh]... fine." instead of just letting it expire. Yes I DID school your ass, thank you so much for acknowledging.

Obligatory "seriously this is such a cut and dry fair use case that it's literally the exact example that YouTube itself lists in the box asking if your video is fair use but I have to spend 2 hours writing a perfect defense that the label is allowed to just ignore, great system we've got here" post

Obligatory "the label literally filed the claim for the wrong song and YouTube let them just quietly change it while rejecting my dispute instead of factoring that in as a sign that they are perhaps not operating in very good faith, great system we've got here" post

(The Bear finale spoilers!!!!) "You got two." FUCK. YES. SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP PLAY ME THE HITS AND PLAY THEM WELL THIS IS A PERFECT TELEVISION SHOW!!!

Man there is no way for a story to lose me faster than "Everything is going great! Story is about to resolve! Time for a secondary character to SUDDENLY DIE!!! Guess we've got a whole new set of emotional baggage to unpack!!"

idk maybe it's having lived the actual irony of a family member who ran a funeral home and was constantly being pulled away from dinners because "people die at the most inconvenient times!" dying tragically young a week before Christmas, you can't make that shit up but it was still anything but tidy

Anyway if this bothers you too probably skip [SPOILER!!!!!!] Main Characters by Bobby Palmer. Also continues to sit poorly with me in re: Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, slightly more complex twist on the device but probably the first time I noticed how much it got to me (derogatory).

Not really sure why this is my line but something about OPTIMALLY TIMED DEATH! hence GRIEF AS NARRATIVE WRINKLE! makes me feel genuinely insulted as a reader and it makes me so angry that it's almost impossible for me to sit with anything I liked about the story up to that point.
