Best 'bonus moment of doom' ever? "we’re heating the planet 10 times faster than ever before in planetary history. And this fact alone means that scientific models are hampered, likely incomplete and inaccurate, because there’s no precedent for what’s happening."

It’s astonishing to see this, even though we saw it coming months ago. White = 10°F + above normal in the El Niño regions. Its immense! In the air, a regional warming of 10° is no big deal. But in the ocean it’s immense! Think about how hard it is/ how long it takes to cool/ heat your pool. 1/

One of several eyebrow-raisers in here. (Happy Holidays?) "California’s highest king tides are predicted on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, with another in late January. Water levels will probably rival the highest in recorded history, even without a nearby storm."

Anthony Edwards@edwardsanthonyb.bsky.social

An El Niño-induced coastally-trapped Kelvin wave will likely raise water levels about 9-14 inches (relative to 1993-2025 averages) along the California coast in early October. Water temperatures will also increase. The sudden increase will be as much as “the entire climate change anomaly in one go”

Measured against an already superheated ocean, it may not be the strongest gradient, but there are still zetajoules of heat to be unleashed on the atmosphere.

Confused about why some folks are calling this the strongest El Niño on record already, while others aren't? Several crackerjack scientist-writers from the old ENSO Blog are now at climate.us. This dandy explainer from Emily Becker lays it all out. www.climate.us/news-feature...

This is where the 1% will go to restart civilization after a nuclear attack. But it for me thinking: what if the uber wealthy built these bunkers for more people — and not for nuclear attacks but for the climate crisis that will get us all — instead of trying to leave the planet?

Even if Canada unilaterally ceased all fossil fuel production (destroying its economy) and could somehow miraculously achieve net zero overnight, it is only a tiny fraction of the global CO2 problem. The terrible dilemma here is there is no way out of this that we don't all lose. We are doomed.

Canada's largest ice cream company used to source its fruits and nuts from U.S. suppliers — some for over 30 YEARS. Then, Trump imposed a 25% tariff on Canadian products. So, what did Chapman's do? They called Italy. They called Spain. They signed multi-year contracts with European suppliers.

🇺🇦 Zelensky: Twelve years of Russia's attempts to break Ukrainians. Already 1644 days of full-scale war. And every day of this struggle has a face. These are all our people who continue to act, work, help and do everything every day to ensure that Ukraine exists. Thank you to each and every one.

"A narrow class of people is profiting from our anguish. They know they’re setting our world on fire... What they care about is money... Not even enough to become grotesquely rich ...They seek power, buy it, co-opt it, leverage it and always thirst for more of it."

Just a thought here since Lutnick is back in the news after scuttling the US Canada trade talks, always refer to him as: Epstein lunch pal Lutnick.

MeidasTouch@meidastouch.com

This new file released appears to show Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick discussing visiting Epstein's island in 2012. Lutnick previously claimed that he cut off ties around 2005 with Epstein after being revolted by him.

For over a year, Canada has worked intensively and in good faith with the United States to negotiate a new comprehensive trade deal. We have been pragmatic, patient, and persistent. Our goal has always been to get the best deal for Canadians, never a deal at any price or on any time frame.

Wake up. Make breakfast. Do email. Watch a murder. Go to a party for a 5 year old. Laugh with my daughter. See a different angle of that murder. Hear govt officials slander the victim. Play Barbies with my kid. Feed her dinner. Tear up at that victim reading last honors to a vet. Put kid to bed. USA

It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans. 🧵 1 of 9
