art, and poetry, combined with my own history, I trace how we got here — and where we might go from here. This content was first presented as an opening keynote at a software engineering conference in May 2026. I specifically made this version for YouTube. 4/5

I got *so* much feedback from so many engineers that it made them feel seen & said what they can’t say out of fear of repercussions. If this speaks to you, please share it with your friends & team members. Many people are not okay right now; this is my attempt at sketching out some paths forward.

Maybe you got into tech because you loved tinkering with computers. Maybe it was the promise of stability, good pay, and meaningful work. Now, after waves of layoffs, return-to-office mandates, and AI reshaping everything around us, those promises feel shaky, at best, and many of us feel 2/5

uncertain about what it all means — and what it means for us. This is an invitation to sit with that uncertainty, look at it, and find something unexpected on the other side. It speaks to what many people in tech are feeling but struggling to say out loud as the industry demands enthusiasm. 2/5

To quote my fav Reddit comment on this re: this opening Meta up to another lawsuit: “They’ve ran the same playbook for pushing 20 years now. We get $35 or whatever in the class action and they get to build a surveillance state. The Future rules” tech.yahoo.com/ai/meta-ai/a...

tech.yahoo.comMeta Furious Over Bombshell Smart Glasses Revelation"Despite the billions of reasons not to, Meta seems to have created the capacity to turn their customers into a distributed surveillance machine."

“Getting strong output from an LLM requires a skilled human on the other end: one who validates what it produces, identifies what it missed, expands the ideation beyond the initial response, and applies judgment to decide. Cognitive surrender eliminates … those steps.” tech.yahoo.com/ai/articles/...

there are many things people can hold against me in this life but lack of dedication to the cause really isn't one of them (this is my attempt at taking photos of some of my favorite rocks, and i had, uhm, camera remote battery + lighting setup problems) #lenawritesakeynote (Might delete later :D)

Had my last pottery session this week, finished my first porcelain jewelry experiments and tiles, incl. a long chain necklace I’m STOKED about. Broke 3 pieces, but for sanding down super fragile pieces (NOT a personal strength), that’s alright. Fingers crossed for second firing!

I am "unavailable to go to this taco place because last time I went they tried to sit me at a back table on a bar stool between two other people and I looked over there and that was just TOO CLOSE for me as a person with SHOULDERS so I left, but I am still holding a grudge"-years old

(i mean, sure, it's also useful that the masks are coming off, etc., etc. But in a time when making even somewhat decent choices can feel eighteen dimensions of complicated, it is nice when a decision is easy, occasionally.)

What are good places for art commissions atm? I’d like to pay an artist for 2-4 small illustrations/drawings but don’t know anywhere but Fiverr. Also: if you know anyone, send me their info! Emotions-/style-wise I’m looking for cute, fun, warm, playful, colorful, bold. Timeline is 4 weeks.)
