I'm gonna make this clear as an "Intro post": Trans rights are human rights. Full stop. I don't tolerate racists, anti-vaxxers, MAGAs, or most right wingers in general.

Earnest take: MattY is an idiot

Dan Mauler 🎃@meelar.bsky.social

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

Its very jarring to get transported back to 2004 everytime he talks about a muslim person

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

This is just pure racism. Republicans objectively are campaigning on little more than bigotry.

Every day, my loathing for MattY becomes more vindicated

A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

Call me old fashioned but i dont think you can name someone "man of the century" when the century in question has only been around for 26 years

Steve Benen@stevebenen.com

For those keeping score, Trump had already received made-up awards from the NRSC, FIFA, the coal industry, and House Republicans. Then a desperate candidate in Iowa added a “Man of the Century” honor to the pitiful list. www.ms.now/rachel-maddo...

It's called film "footage" because camera operators initially held the cameras with their feet. That changed after a film shoot in 1931, when an operator got a foot cramp and was forced to hold the camera in his hands. The "footage" he got that day was extraordinary. That man's name? Hans Cameraman.

It gets rid of most anti-zionists that are just antisemites, it gets rid of the annoying types of leftists, and it gets rid of fascists. What more could you want!?

it really is amazing how accurate the “do you support both Palestine and Ukraine” litmus test has proven to be

See a conspiracy theorist would say that the whole Wedgewood debacle was done so that they would have an actual "Fake Poll" to point to to justify their bullshit

Kevin Collier @kevincollier.bsky.social

In any other admin, this would probably be the most outrageous official statement ever made by a sitting FCC director: Strongly implying that the government forbids broadcast networks from reporting on the president's falling poll numbers. (Sorry to paste from twitter but that's where he posts.)

I dedicate much of the latter half of my book to industry consolidation. The conclusion is that videogames are an incredible art form in urgent need of liberation from draconian modes of production that will suphocate it and destroy it. Unbelievable the speed with which it's all taking place.

Its 2029, wake up, check phone, see the Houthis have hit EA's new Riyadh headquarters with a scud missile, go back to sleep with a slight grin on my face.

Go back far enough and this is probably why life first moved onto land

Faine Greenwood@faineg.com

You didn’t have to come out and SAY that you were packing up your ocean-crossing canoe to search across the seas for a new land just to get away from your awful family, but you know that had to have been a FACTOR for a lot of history’s intrepid explorers and settlers

Say what you want about the Bolsheviks but just ripping the bandaid off and getting rid of the Romanovs was the right call

Jacob T. Levy@jacobtlevy.bsky.social

You've got to admire the commitment to the bit. Have we heard from the current Orléanist pretender?

The framing of these stories always (still!) catches me off guard. They "know" it happens to bad parenys but obviously theyd never consider themselves "bad parents". Which is ironic because that introspection would be the first step to fixing the estrangement.

Michael Hobbes@michaelhobbes.bsky.social

The other category of coverage is *extremely* implausible first-person accounts from estranged parents. According to this woman, her son cut her off after she was mildly rude to his fiance's family a single time. There's no way this is the entire story. www.goodhousekeeping.com/relationship...

Something something ethics in game novelizations

Isadora@rockdovelady.bsky.social

The consensus of the active player base who read it (even her fans): @tkingfisher.com didn’t play the game. I’d eat my hat if she ever finished Astarion’s character quest. Her responses to questions are nonsense & the book is offensive as hell in context. Goodreads keeps purging negative reviews.

I genuinely hope that the Scaramucci as a unit of measurement stays in the public consciousness as long as Gerrymander has

Its insane discourse to watch. I, and most people i know in real life, make between 30k and 35k per year. A windfall of my entire expected yearly income would absolutley change my life

adonis (and cait)@cait.bsky.social

the reason the bloodless quants on this site are all back on "is $30k a lot of money?" is because they lost the previous "is $500k a lot of money to be told you owe a hospital for the birth of your child?" argument. it's all downstream of the same shit. argue about something else

Here are some things i could do with 30k: -Move into a new apartment that isnt in a terrible area -Pay for an entire associates degree at a community college -Down payment for a new (still used but new for me) car All three of those would be varying degrees of life changing and I can think of more

30k is a lot of money and the 500k only became "a billing error" because the victim fought it. It is entirely concievable that it would have remained a debt that they would have been expected to pay had they not had the wherewithal to challenge it.

Part of focusing on the median and the mean also means not getting shocked pikachu face when people who fall on the outliers exist and express issues with the systems they have no control over.

If all of your analysis only focuses on means and medians (which are incredibly important for policy, dont get me wrong), then dont be surprised when people who exist on the outliers feel abandoned by people like you.

Like every retro console, some favorite games for each, and the biggest CRT i can get my hands on

Peter@notalawyer.bsky.social

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

Its "cool" if you just ignore like every issue this would cause if ever released on the road. Get in a wreck that damages those air tanks? Now youre sitting in a missile. Flight control stops working in a school zone? Now those kids are dead. Like seriously "cool" should not be our standard.

Alex Hern@hern.bsky.social

do think there's a danger of looking at extremely cool shit like a car driving upside down then doing a kickflip before landing, and convincing yourself it's actually lame because the guy funding it is a white supremacist

I consider it a skill issue on the part of *some* of my fellow leftists that they can't envision a form of socialism that doesnt rely on tying yourself to 20th century political movements.

Wannabe Apparatchik@apparatchikwannabe.bsky.social

the thing that’s tied to this is the air of overwhelming pessimism which has consumed the western radical left, which is why “is the government we’re supporting even left wing” is no longer important to them. the socialist revolution has become a missed opportunity, a lost golden path
