Oh wow! Thank you so much to Piers Torday for sending us this copy of Wolf Crown, which has now come out in paperback. It's the fantastic follow up to 2024's Midnight Treasure, and we love that we get to go back to this fantastical world! #BookSky #ChildrensBooks #ReadingForPleasure #FantasyReads

And to receive a personal note...well, that means a lot. We'll always support reading - we do what we do because we believe in it. But that's not to say that it's not nice when someone notices! 😉

#BookPost just in time for #Halloween - thank you to Kiran at @scholasticuk.bsky.social for a copy of How To Train Your Zombie! Preston is our protag, and the zombie is his recently-deceased friend Tommy. But there's also a monster hunter out there... We can't wait to sink our teeth into this!

Unfortunately COVID has made a cheeky comeback meaning that there won't be a book recommendation post for last month - to be honest, Lynda's been too unwell to read much anyway! In the meantime, we'll just have to share some of the fantastic #BookPost that's been delivered.

First up is this great non-fiction duo (pub. Button Books), thanks to Paul Eckersley at GMC Publications. I'm definitely borrowing that Survivors Handbook once Lynda's finished with it! ^Kim #NonFictionForKids #ChildrensBooks #BookSky #BooksForKids

Ghost and Toast: Slice to Meet You, released today, is exactly what you'd expect from graphic novel author and illustrator Phil Corbett (creator of the Kitty Quest series). Ghost (the dead one) and Toast (the bread one) are going to be loads of fun for LKS2.

When you're not sure about the weather, the best thing to do is grab a book! And that's exactly what we did over August - you can check out our non-fiction recommendations that we enjoyed last month below! www.libraries4schools.com/2026/09/07/b...

Since we got a proof copy, we didn’t get to enjoy Swain’s inside illustrations, though from what we’ve seen online they’re definitely up to the job! We love the cover however, featuring our main character who - we think - bears a striking resemblance to his creator, and his ominous alter-ego shadow.

Henrik Jekyll’s parents hate each other, but they both dote on their obnoxious son. So when Gabby (a small “lawyer”) is delivered to his home and hands Henrik the will of Dr Henry Jekyll, nothing will stop him from taking possession of the manor and Dr Jekyll’s research…with dangerous consequences.

Full of hostile villagers, a mansion full of secrets, the sinister Lady Deadlock, and a dodgy green potion, the book bursts with more jaw-dropping surprises and twists and turns than ‘a twisty turny thing’. Jekyll and Hyde leap sure-footed into the 21st century in this brilliantly imagined story!

When Dylan disappears and the monolith turns up on the beach, Aldo, Petra, Odin and the rest of the Comic Club realise that things are not as they should be and that trouble is definitely brewing. This awesome and highly entertaining series is full of believable characters again facing gods and...

...mythical creatures with nothing more than friendship, an annoying little sister, the Norse God of poetry and war (in cat form), and his 2 ravens. Full of sinister adversaries, scary situations, and near death confrontations, these humorous adventure-filled books will keep you hooked to the end!

Aldo, Petra, and Odin have left home for a holiday by the sea. There Aldo meets his cousin Dylan, who has just found a monolith with cryptic symbols standing on the seabed. Meanwhile, Petra not only wins a goldfish, but insists it can talk and that its name is POSEIDON. Surely not another god?!

The Worst Thing That Could Possibly Happen, by Guy Bass and David Roberts, is one of the most exciting and unique books of the year. It's a collection of spooky short stories, poetry and comic strips. The range of styles, both in the writing and the artwork, is just fantastic.

Trying to find his way in a new world, while carrying his name and heirloom like a huge neon sign, he attracts unwelcome attention everywhere he goes. It’s a story of deep friendship and painful betrayal, but above all it’s about the courage and determination to fight for what you believe in. [4/5]

We're relaunching the Patron of Reading initiative, which is all about schools forming long-term relationships with authors, poets and illustrators. If you're a children's writer who'd be interested in taking part, just add your details to this list: padlet.com/mariezarro/p...

How strange it is to think that 30 yrs ago Orion Children's Books published my stories about a tall fairy with spiky hair, big feet and no wings, named Nettie Mugwort! I'll always be thankful for Nettie, who came along at just the right moment and has never left me since 💙 - Lynda #ChildrensBooks

Packed with humour, sassy characters, an unbelievably cute and lovable alien with a surprising talent, and a seemingly unstoppable hunter, the fast-moving text is interspersed with black and white comic strip sections that seamlessly move the story forward, adding to the gripping pace. [3/4]

...running their delivery business, Galaxy Runners. With a rather suspect canister to deliver and an angry multi-corporation hot on their tail, we travel at breakneck speed with them to the edge of the known accessible universe in their elderly spaceship, Nova. [2/4]
