Eala! I almost forgot the feast of Alfred the Great, d. 899. Here are two MSS of his translation of Gregory's Pastoral Care, Bodleian Library Hatton 20, from Alfred's lifetime, and CCCC 12, 11th c., both with bonus Tremulous Hand of Worcester!

This was almost exactly my reaction to someone at work today. Perfect image right'chea.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

And the Oilers still left Houston.

Today in 1987, Harris County caves to Oilers owner Bud Adams. Team will stay, but the Astrodome scoreboard will be removed to add more seats.

I've seen many a Cheescake Factory from afar, but I can't recall going to one. Closest I've been is Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro. Ain't nothing wrong with a menu the size of a dictionary if you can make it all and it's good. But yeah, I don't wanna live in a CF.

"This is not just a story about one community. It's about all communities, and how immigration enforcement is changing their relationships with their police departments. "It begs the question: what have we, as a society, signed up for?"

Early this year, I visited Ingram, a TX town of ~1,900, to check out a tip. The area was starting to recover from its worst flood in a century. But as Latino workers drove to jobsites to help rebuild, the tipster said, a cop in a black Dodge Charger kept stopping them ... 🧵

$240 billion to deport friends and neighbors is staggering. It could go towards so many other things that don't hurt people.

Yup. This is also why the selling of pardons is disgusting. People like the narcissistic felon know they're doing wrong and they very much want there to be no consequences for their actions. We can't let this behavior go. We just can't. bsky.app/profile/spot...

Ah, that lane across the bridge. You think you've found a back way to the Superdome and whoopsie, you're on the Westbank!

Tell you what I love, as a nondriver who lives on the Westbank, I love a driver who knows about the HOV lane

The second line to the polls was quite literal—the band went inside New Orleans City Hall, right up to the line of voters

There’s a second line to bring early voters from Treme to New Orleans’ City Hall to cast ballots on October 24th

I've never had a good experience seeing Irma Thomas perform live. I love her recordings, but it seems like the song choices at places like JazzFest are uninspiring. Gave her a couple of chances and eh.

Inspired by someone saying they left a Sigur Ros gig because they maybe were "having a bad day," what shows have you attended you expected to be amazing but were the opposite? I saw Godspeed! You Black Emperor in I think, 2018... it should have been transcendent but I had some kind of breakdown.

'Some choices seem to have anticipated the subsequent Reign of Terror. Maximilien de Robespierre came arrayed as a ghost; Doctor Guillotin, chief advocate of the execution machine which would bear his name, attended in the guise of “a seller of herbs wearing a death mask”.'

The fun part of having marched in Krewe du Vieux for 11 years was doing it with good friends, especially when I moved away from New Orleans and that was the one time I got to see many of them. Carville as krewe royalty absolutely sucks...but the true crazy krewe spirit will live on elsewhere...

...because that's the nature of New Orleans Carnival. It suffers cruel fools to a point and then they overstay their welcome and those who truly embody the community of it move on, establish a new krewe, get absorbed into others, keep telling the stories of good times and revelry.

🚨NEW STORY🚨 Farmer Jamie Davis is closing the gap as he bids to be Louisiana’s first Black U.S. Senator since Reconstruction, leaving Julia Letlow without the sure victory Republicans had hoped for. "This is not going to be a slam dunk," a pollster warns. thelensnola.org/2026/10/23/j...

🚨🚨🚨 Just got info from the Jamie Davis (Louisiana US Dem candidate) campaign that a poll taken from 9/17 to 9/19 shows he's within 4 points of US Rep. Julia Letlow (the R senate candidate) in the Louisiana US senate race. Of note, Letlow's name recognition is double that of Davis. (82% vs. 41%)

Recent #xstitch progress. I've been scheduled for a lot of evening shifts lately, so I get some of this done in the mid-morning. Did a good amount on my recent travels out west, too.

liprap@liprap.bsky.social

Day off today, so nothing happened but a lot of #xstitch and Star Trek Discovery rewatch.

Hm, considering what I chatted about with my dad yesterday on true GOP believers or voter apathy driving the race being so close, this is looking like a certain amount of apathy & avoidance slapping these believers upside the head. These ads are ALL OVER teevee in Texas. Every program.

Melissa Paints@melissavandiver.bsky.social

Lmao Btw this sub only allows vetted conservative accounts to post so this probably isn't a liberal/leftist troll

They're also airing in English and Spanish during any and all shows, whether it's streaming TV or live. God forbid anyone change their gender, but OH NO THE KIDS ARE ASKING WHAT TRANSGENDER IS. YOU PUT AN IDEA IN THEIR HEADS, TEXAS GOP.

In a state that barred nearly all abortion care months prior to the fall of Roe v. Wade, some Texas Democrats are placing abortion rights on the back burner, instead focusing on the economy. But abortion access is inextricably tied to affordability, especially in Texas, say repro rights advocates.

Texas Observer@texasobserver.org

“We have been encouraging candidates like Gina Hinojosa to speak about abortion access unapologetically and with clarity. When we don’t explicitly use the word abortion, we produce greater stigma and shame.”

And now someone's gone through the glove box of my son's car. Pros/cons of posting this on the neighborhood Nextdoor?
