🚨NEW STORY🚨
Farmer Jamie Davis is closing the gap as he bids to be Louisiana’s first Black U.S. Senator since Reconstruction, leaving Julia Letlow without the sure victory Republicans had hoped for.
"This is not going to be a slam dunk," a pollster warns.

Just got info from the Jamie Davis (Louisiana US Dem candidate) campaign that a poll taken from 9/17 to 9/19 shows he's within 4 points of US Rep. Julia Letlow (the R senate candidate) in the Louisiana US senate race.
Of note, Letlow's name recognition is double that of Davis. (82% vs. 41%)
The main negative response I've seen towards the excitement over this Louisiana US Senate race is "He WonT WIn AnYwAY!" I find it annoying because voters in this state haven't had much to be excited about in years, and change starts with people believing that change is possible in the first place!!

My nephew wants to dress as Michael Jackson for Halloween and IDK how to tell a 13 year old that if he does, then he should probably never post those pictures and/or run for office.

I need to hire someone whose sole role in my life is to stand over my shoulder and whisper in my ear, "You should be writing right now, you should be writing right now" over and over until I do the aforementioned writing.

Per info received from the Davis campaign, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg (a contender for the 2028 presidential race) will be rallying alongside Davis today in NOLA.

Gonna be talking about Louisiana politics—the midterm elections specifically—on a podcast soon and I’m pretty excited about that
Anytime I get to talk state politics to a captive audience I’m happy

All I know is Pete visited & delivered for every state as secretary, and since leaving the cabinet, he’s visited almost 40 states, endorsed over 100 candidates, campaigned with over half of them, has been welcome in every part of the country, & especially by candidates in red and purple places. 🤷🏾♀️

Will this move the needle for Davis at all? IDK. One of my theories is that this may help nationalize the race.
Because idk how much clout Buttigieg has in Louisiana.
I’ve noticed this routine trap of reporters interviewing voters at campaign events. No regular person goes to those events. Better off getting interviews outside a local Ross.

This happens so much it isn’t even funny
A newspaper will interview a “voter” but then you find this voter’s LinkedIn and find out they used to work for Heritage Foundation or some shit 😩

There's a real chance we could see Black senators elected in both Louisiana and Mississippi next week. I'm blowing money on ActBlue donations as if it were a bookstore. There's still time for us to make a difference for these campaigns.

Putting up a good fight, trying to win, and losing is STILL more valuable than never really trying. It builds infrastructure, voter habits, local talent. TX is on the verge in large part bc of ppl activated (and maintained) by Beto. GA went purple bc Stacey Abrams worked hard (still does) and lost.

In 23 the La Dem party was more interested in running against Mandie Landry than Jeff Landry. The new group is far from perfect, but they're head and shoulders better than the 2023 grifters.
"...every single day, the share of... black voters has gone up. On the first day, it was 31.7%. On Wednesday, black voters cast 32.6%. Yesterday they cast a whopping 33.2%. Across all four days combined, black voters are now 32.2% of everyone who has voted early..."

LOUISIANA Senate:
LA-SEN: Safe R -> Likely R
I cannot believe I just did that but the turnout is nothing short of astonishing and a 4 point deficit in internal polling with undecideds to spare is not impossible. GOP turnout is just that bad this year as Black voter turnout is just that good.
I also think Letlow is running a bad campaign based around inevitability and a lack of interaction with voters. given her ethics problems and the whole data center thing, that's not a great idea it seems to me, and Davis is exploiting that weakness

But also the Davis campaign does have a lot going well for it, so far, high Black voter turnout, the fact some Republicans don't like Letlow, and the fact that Davis' message does resonate with people when they get to meet him.
So IDK what will happen!
But if he doesn't win, and the race comes down to single digit points, I'm going on the record right now and saying I think he could beat Jeff Landry for Governor.
But again, the election results haven't come in yet so I don't have any strong opinions as of yet.

I know that online posts don't equate to votes but if you're Louisianan, ask yourself: how many folks were hyping up Shawn Wilson in the Gubernatorial race in 2023?
The voter in me wants to join in the excitement but also the politics journalist in me knows what the outcome might be. People in this state vote for anything with an R next to their name on the ballot like it's a reflex.
I'm just saying let people have hope.
Over 2,000 alumni from Vivek’s all-boys catholic high school in Cincinnati have signed and circulated a petition demanding that he pull the ad and issue a public apology for “ignoring the moral responsibilities” of his Jesuit education. I think he’s pretty cooked.

I still have an extremely short Mary Kathrine Ann Gallager Catholic school girl costume (from the SNL skit). I remember wearing cotton undies and doing cartwheels in the club parking lot in it. It's a family heirloom now.
