Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

Leaving this beautiful, moving photo by Antonello Veneri here as a brief balm. Taken this morning in Salvador, one of the cities most affected by voter suppression, and showing the pure elation of Lula voters coming out of the polling station after exercising their democratic right.

A great actor but beyond that, as this wonderful interview illustrates, a man who knew how to appreciate all that life offers.
RIP Tom Skerritt. A great actor who had an uncanny ability to show up in the most iconic movies, even if it was with the briefest part. I did a wide-ranging talk with him a few years ago that's still one of my favorite interviews [Gift link]: www.vulture.com/2021/10/tom-...

RIP Tom Skerritt. Most memorable role of his for me, unfortunately, was his very effective portrayal as the scientist and senior NSF administrator who swoops in at the 11th hour to steal both credit for the discovery of alien life, and the opportunity to make first contact, from Jodie Foster

“Storm” was a music video AI couldn't fake. Then came a tool that allowed people to copy it into infinity. It’s a glimpse of a future in which people can lift an artist’s style, or even their entire personality, as easily as they once downloaded mp3s.

Chris Evans is a funny actor, but the movies he is in don’t always take advantage of this fact. Now, with Romain Gavras’s strange and spectacular ‘Sacrifice,’ co-starring Anya Taylor-Joy, the actor gets one of his best roles in years.
SACRIFICE premiered at TIFF last year and is only now seeing the light of day, via Netflix. I think it’s pretty great, not the least because Chris Evans is hilarious in it. www.vulture.com/article/revi...
