Genuine question about #atproto: How will the economics work when developers start dumping users’ app data onto their PDSs? From a developer’s point of view it’s unlimited free data storage, right?

I think the lime green throws this palette a little bit, but otherwise I think “fjord” is a cool association for the cool, muted colors and natural imagery — even the combination of “lake” and “kelp”, which would indeed suggest an inland saltwater body like a fjord.

Supposedly brussels sprouts have been engineered to taste better, which is awesome because I friggin love brussels sprouts.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

When I set this up, I made the avatar and header change to match the latest palette, but I just updated it so that the horse’s mane is a different color from its head. It’s all in the details.

It's giving Bauhaus. I rewrote the bot logic to make the output feels a bit less surreal. I think it would be cool to assemble a directory of these palettes using the generated names. "Which theme is your blog using?" "Industrial Renaissance, of course."

I think this is working better! The palettes are generated from random seeds, the icons are selected to match the colors, and then Llama writes a title. They were feeling pretty abstract, but I think the tweaks make this feel more like a real motif.

One of the biggest changes was to get the classifier model to choose a set of icons that actually go together. It takes three possibilities for each tile, 27 combinations in total, and picks the most coherent. That makes the iconography more logical and produces a better title.

I revamped the @color.horse generator to produce more coherent motifs and include an explicit link to the full palette. Subscribe for daily color inspiration 🎨

I love this effect! The ball's motion stays constant. The only thing that changes is the shadow animation, and that's enough to trick our brains into thinking the ball is moving back and forth *or* up and down. The shadow positions the ball in 3D space. 🤯 🔗 @codepen.io: codepen.io/editor/amit_...

It has finally happened. I have built the perfect knowledge management configuration, which means I am, at long last, entering my zettlekasten era.

What is the setup, you ask? A folder of markdown files synced with syncthing over tailscale. A remarkable ereader with a side-loaded terminal running helix editor. Full books converted from annotated PDFs to markdown with inline highlights and comments. And, ofc, @vowel.cc.

I have a backlog of at least twenty books to parse the notes from, along with countless articles and scribblings. The book in the screenshot is “The History of White People” by Nell Irvin Painter, which I highly recommend.

Are you looking for a color scheme that conveys the crippling burden of the panopticon? Look no further!

I love how weird these are, but I concede that they are not working. I think I need a new system.

I have a favor to ask 🫣 Today is my first promotional push on this project that I've been working on for almost three years. If you can, please spare a like, repost, or comment on the post below! (Or, better yet, send me a message with your thoughts — positive or negative.)

I am so excited to finally share this. I've been working on it for so long, and, with this version, it finally feels real. Zero-config. Instant deploys. Superpowered markdown. This is the website builder I've always wanted.

LLMs are very useful if you use them for unoriginal work. But they’re also weirdly useful for a type of work where you need to identify something that is implicit in collective knowledge but generally unstated, like “what is the most random number?”

that basically explains why AI stuff blows it’s like auto-tune for ideas, like yeah you hit the note but you lose the subtlety, the richness, the soul

I’m almost done the docs for @vowel.cc v0.7, and this feels like a really big push, but I’m so excited to get it out. I want this to be the best way to make a website. I dunno if it’s there yet, but I’m really loving the dogfood.

I'm rewriting my icon selector and title generator for these, and jeez it's hard to name color palettes.

Question for folks who use #markdown: I'm working on conventions for metadata. For example, title and date: # Hello 10/31/25 What about this for og:description: # Hello 10/31/25 Lorem ipsum. --- Dolor sit amet. Is a single generic paragraph above an <hr> a good convention?

wait RYB in a picker?? ok that's sick, my whole color intuition still runs on kindergarten paint mixing (red + yellow = orange forever)

I added two new selectors to color.horse: "Color Wheel" emulates additive and subtractive color models with "RGB" (red-green-blue) or "RYB" (red-yellow-blue). "Gamut" optimizes the palette for screen or print by limiting available colors.

Some of these definitely read as surrealist pop art.

You don’t need to understand hypertext transfer protocol to use a web browser. Ordinary don’t need to know what atproto is. We just need developers to understand that atproto offers free data storage, authentication, and user management. They’ll come, and they will bring users.

And I don’t think we need to explain that “you control your own data.” That’s a side benefit. atproto is way bigger than data sovereignty. People will use it because atproto apps will be better than non-atproto apps.

Im sure this is a real problem, but in the experiment they were getting people to DO FRACTIONS with AI and then they took away the AI and the participants gave up on doing fractions, which seems like a completely normal way to respond in that situation.

To me it seems like the research finding is “people give up on pointless tasks when the pointlessness of the task is emphasized.”
