My 1st article for National Geographic is out now. It is on Cleopatra’s & Antony’s surviving children after their parents’ deaths—especially Cleopatra Selene. Thanks to Jane Draycott (and her book, Cleopatra’s Daughter) & @candidamoss.bsky.social for their help. And @bresnick.bsky.social for edits.

Historical Fiction is such delightful fun! Cleopatra and Company didn’t do any of the things I had them do in my Shards books … we think. :)

PS What I am doing with this research is historical fiction, so where a historian might have to say ‘probably’ I’m like ‘yeah, that’s definitely going in…’

The Ark and the Empire, first book in the Shards trilogy (pub by @headofzeus.bsky.social), by @michaellivingston.com, is a great blend between history and myth; a pageturner that gives a fantastical spin over a key moment of Roman history. Full thoughts: jamreads.com/reviews/the-... 💙📚

It’s hard to promote anything with all that’s going on, but if you’re looking for an escape, my first novel was just re-released. It’s beautifiul and I’m very proud of it: Julius Caesar is dead, assassinated on the senate floor, and the glory that is Rome has been torn in two... ⚔️ bit.ly/3MmhFCZ 🦅

I am really enjoying "Bloody Crowns" by @michaellivingston.com . Super dense, as he's covering an incredibly dense era, but gripping and easy to follow. I also can't get the phrase "wet gap" out of my head. Absolutely recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in medieval history.

“The author’s training as both scholar and storyteller shapes his execution effectively. His command of archival material—royal letters, treaties, chronicles, and the practical minutiae of campaigns—anchors the narrative, while his instinct for structure keeps it readable.”
