Just got my first email angry that the ship in BEASTS OF THE WILD BLACK is called the Thunberg. They're going to be really cross when they get to the concept of "petrozoic ecocide."

New review - sapphic cli-fi mystery, finding a solution, scarily accurate to our times.

Our Infinite and Inevitable Ends, by A.D. Sui (pub by @ecwpress.bsky.social), is an extremely brilliant piece of fiction, a prescient story that invites the reader to think about its themes while following Cass' self-destructive journey in the search of answers. jamreads.com/reviews/our-... 💙📚

Super happy to see this is happening!

I've been waiting for the news to break... and here we are! Really looking forward to getting going with this (and returning to Aradane!). There are so many people I've been wanting you all to meet... My heartfelt thanks to @johnj.bsky.social and the team at The Broken Binding.

Honestly several things are depressing about ai but the two that stand out are the eagerness of people to outsource thought because cognitive effort is uncomfortable, and the casualness with which people use the shiny, easy thing knowing it's bad for climate change

One of my favourite books of the past few years, & this review does a good job explaining why it's so great.

T.O.Munro@tomunro.bsky.social

I review M.L.Wang's "Blood Over Bright Haven" in which Wang weaves plot, prose and characters into a compelling narrative which challenges and embraces what it means to be human, and in particular what it means to be a 'good' human.

Some year soon I'll make it to Bristolcon, but this is not that year. Fortunately, though, my books will be there for me, so if you're up for a fantasy murder mystery with a side serving of action & politics then check out The Executioner's Blade at the @wtpress.bsky.social stall.

New review - Renfield meets Dracula, Appalachian vampires, media vs memory.

Jamedi is Spooky@jamreads.com

Nightjars, by @michaelwehunt.bsky.social (pub by @stmartinspress.bsky.social), is a remarkable sophomore novel, a different approach to vampire while still examining the fallibility of memory versus media. Add it to your spooky month lists! Full thoughts: jamreads.com/reviews/nigh... 💙📚

New review - A Korean retelling of The Shadow Over Innsmouth, a different POV, an answer to the original

Jamedi is Spooky@jamreads.com

A Plagued Sea, by Kim Bo-Young (trad. Sophie Bowman, pub by @torbooks.bsky.social) is a brilliant re-examination on The Shadow Over Innsmouth, swaping the setting and the POV to deliver a story that could also be considered as an answer to the original. Thoughts: jamreads.com/reviews/a-pl... 💙📚

New review - Return to the Empire of the Wolf, grimdark x horror x mystery, the city is a powder keg.

The Anguished Earth, by @richardswanauthor.bsky.social (pub @grimdarkmagazine.bsky.social), marks the latest addition to the Empire of the Wolf series, and it doesn't dissapoint, keeping that blend of mystery and grimdark that is so characteristic. Full thoughts: jamreads.com/reviews/the-... 💙📚

Had to move my next release back six weeks so as not to step on the toes of this AMAZING anthology I'm part of, along with M L Wang, Zack Pike, David Estes, Zamil Akhtar and a whole slew more. Profits go to help LGBTQ+ kids with donations to the Trevor Project. Check it out: mybook.to/DefytheDark

Also, if you see this and think "but Rachel, I need to use AI for my story b/c my prose/English/plot/story/character skills aren't good enough yet!" No, you don't. You get better at those skills by writing! Readers hate AI writing anyway, so there's literally no upside here. DO NOT ENGAGE.

Rachel Aaron@rachel-aaron.bsky.social

Just found out that some website called "WriteAIBook" is quoting my 2k to 10k method like they interviewed me. I HAVE NEVER TALKED TO THESE PEOPLE. I obviously do NOT want you to use AI to write a book. That is a waste of your creativity and a crime against books. Don't believe scammy AI websites!
