DERELICT is a co-op game for 1-4 players in which you explore a derelict spaceship, rescue its nuclear fuel core, and try not get killed by whatever did in the main crew. The 1st half is reminiscent of Betrayal, and the 2nd half has combat mechanics inspired by Gloomhaven discord.gg/MmuKAEKDG

Thinking for the first time today about how actually, in the nursery rhyme, the butcher the baker and the candlestick maker ALL have very important jobs in a pre-electrification world. As a kid, I always thought "one of these things is not like the other" I see you now, candlestick maker!

I think what's worse is the inevitable follow-up to these sorts of things that goes roughly like "You're welcome, academics, for getting people talking about your work!" and "Well if you all would just *collaborate* more instead of having Big Academic Egos, maybe we'd have it figured out!" πŸ™„

Perhaps what frustrates me about it most is the extent to which many people have (negative) opinions and BIG BIG feelings about academia and research/researchers while knowing next to *nothing* about how any of it works, even if they did an undergraduate degree

God I love the internet sometimes. Years ago u made this table runner, but I can't remember how it was done & was having a VERY hard time reverse engineering it. I posted on reddit and a couple hours later, someone responded with a graph paper draft 😭❀️

I'm excited to share that the cooperative sci-fi board game @lizfischer0.bsky.social and I are developing, Derelict, is entering a new phase of playtesting -- which means we're looking for testers! You can learn about the game and join our Discord here: waxriver.com Art by @crowwkui.bsky.social πŸ’š

Bookbinding / book arts friends, help!! I have a bunch of old posters and other large ephemera I want to bind together to put in my keepsake box. They're various sizes, and for practical purposes some need to be folded into quarters. How would you approach this?

The day after the Spokane fires started, the smoke was apocalyptic. I went to Target to shop for CASA donations, and overheard a dad in the socks section say to his son "Doesn't matter what it costs, we don't have anything anymore" 😒

I’ve seen in two culture /higher ed magazines recently the claim that the printing press engendered a crisis of authority at universities bc anyone could publish what they wanted and people could learn things without universities. This is not true.

When the wind shifted around 6:20 today, I had this view looking SW toward the Old Trails fire in Spokane. Send our city good vibes, y'all--it's already been quite devastating & isn't close to over

Shout out to Spokane Public Radio for their fire coverage today, and for breaking format to play KHQ's new coverage this evening too. With power out & bad cell service, being able to get info over the radio is a comfort!

I love this kind of local history! Toponymy!! πŸ₯°

y’all I’m losing it my mother and I are just working out after decades that most of the roads in my hometownβ€”a boomtown that emerged mostly around the construction of Shasta Damβ€”ARE NAMED AFTER OTHER DAM PROJECTS IN THE US

One of my favorite things in life is the way music speaks to you differently in different stages of life. Revisiting some college favorites recently and finding they hit really different a dozen years later πŸ₯° πŸ’”

just got an email from my (former) chair that the university has acted & the state has approved the formal closure of my department. this was done without any faculty input on the decision or the process, & has ended a vibrant, growing (!), humanities department that won teaching and research awards

Matt Gabriele@profgabriele.com

Anyway, happy Monday! The Dean is shutting down my department - Religion & Culture, the only 1 of is kind in the country & home to the innovative Major in Humanities for Public Service. There is no immediate budgetary or political pressure for this decision

All warped with a chaotic mix of cotton I had on hand and threaded rosepath to do a little sampling while I get to know the loom ❀️❀️ #dhmakes if you're a weaver, drop your favorite 4-shaft patterns 😊

Y'all were not convincing and now I might be driving 14 hours round trip this weekend to pick up a (free!!!) Artistat 😭🀩

I need someone to talk me out of buying a floor loom just because I'm annoyed with my table loom 😭 #dhmakes

My table loom woes have been temporarily solved by buying a slimmer shuttle and giving up on the towels I was weaving (I got SO bored) and just messing around with some handspun I don't have enough of to knit with.

My phone recently got this "Comfort view" feature that reduces color intensity on the screen-- I've had on for many weeks now and on the rare occasion I turn it off I'm appalled at how saturated everything is "normally"! How did I stare at that all the time?? (my attempt to simulate pictured below)

Wow, this is incredible! I heard the astronauts saying something to the effect of "this feels like sci-fi" and I see what they mean! Even just looking at this picture I got that feeling. Can't even imagine what it would have been like to see in person!

The Artemis program has cost $93 billion to date. But that's $660 million/year over the last 14 years... Trump is asking this week for $1.5 TRILLION/year for his war. 660,000,000 vs 1,500,000,000,000 I, for one, want even MORE of our money to go to creation, not destruction πŸš€πŸŒ•πŸ§‘β€πŸš€

NASA isn't why the US doesn't have universal healthcare, or a social safety net. The US doesn't have those things because politicians with the power to provide them choose specifically not to (with varying levels of support from voters). Enthusiasm for human spaceflight doesn't drive that choice.

In other words, you could do the whole Artemis program (not just this launch, the whole program to date) 16 TIMES OVER for the amount of money Trump is suggesting be spent in a SINGLE YEAR on war. 9 times with the actual DoD budget from 2025 πŸ˜–
