HVAC heat pumps are outselling fossil-fueled furnaces. But did you know you can also purchase a heat pump water heater? There are now 17 brands on the market! We are very happy with our HPWH. It delivers 344% efficency year round in HP only mode. 🧪💡🔌☀️💨💧🔋 cleantechnica.com/2026/10/08/1...

When this portable, window-mount, heat pump came out it was $4,000-$5,000 to purchase and install. Now it is down to ~$3,000. It's a cold-climate heat pump that operates to -22°F, runs on 120V and you can still see out the window! 🧪💡🔌☀️💨💧🔋
Here is one example of a window mount portable HVAC heat pump. And you don't lose window views! 🧪💡🔌☀️💨💧🔋https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/midea-packaged-window-heat-pump-review/
Pretty clear that Utahns want data centers that:
1) Pay their own way
2) Use clean energy
3) Are water positive
Biggest opposition for fossil gas & nuclear powered data centers (which is most of what we see)

When climate scientists say things are going to be horrendous, people find out many years later that we’re right. With this El Niño, the “find out” part will come in months.
Unless Congress reclaims its power, this will just become the new normal. A good first step would be to impeach Vought.

Don't look now, but the world has now installed 3TW of solar.
Took 10 years to get from 100GW to 1TW. Less than 3 years to get to 2TW. Less than 2 years to get to 3TW.
Analysts expect *9TW* by 2036.
"Utah produced more power from solar than any other source in May, marking a new first"
Several quotes from me & @dvschroeder.bsky.social in the article, check it out! Zero fuel cost, reliable & fast-to-build renewables are the path to Utah's energy future! #utpolwww.sltrib.com/news/environ...
A milestone for Utah! In May, for the first calendar month ever, solar was our number-one electricity source at 32.9%, surpassing gas (32.2%) and coal (28%). Three big new solar farms have boosted Utah's solar capacity by more than 50% over the last year. 🔌💡
EU: The European Union will require sale of mobile phones with “user-replaceable and longer-lasting batteries” starting in 2027.
The regulation demands “availability of spare parts and manuals for 10 years to curb planned obsolescence”.
Me in @sltrib.com on Rocky Mountain Power's latest IRP that zeros out wind and solar for the next 20 years in Utah:
“It’s a major missed opportunity, it'll lock us into a more expensive generation mix that’s riskier and exposed to volatile fossil fuel prices.” #utpolwww.sltrib.com/news/environ...

PacifiCorp has no new wind or solar projects planned for Utah customers through 2045

This winter is a postcard from the future with a dramatically warmer climate. It is in our collective power to determine how warm the future is based on how quickly we can reduce our emissions. The time to act is now.
Deer Valley Resort became the latest Utah ski area to fall victim to the warm winter of 2025-26. It announced Thursday that it would close this weekend - nearly a month before its announced closing date.
Opinion: All emissions matter. Every tank of gasoline, cross-country flight and fossil-fueled load of laundry makes the earth a little warmer. So anything you do to reduce your emissions makes the problem a little easier to solve — once we collectively decide we want to solve it.
Letter: This summer, when temperatures sizzle and water is scarce, ask yourself what you can do so that our political leaders (state and federal) promote our future instead of destroying it.
Letter: Why are our state leaders so fixated on nuclear energy — one of the most expensive options out there — when we could lead the nation in clean, reliable and economically sound geothermal?
The US government lost more than 10,000 STEM PhDs last year, according to an analysis by Science of newly released OPM data, with 11 departures for every hire. And many OPM calls "voluntary" separations were probably pushed. www.science.org/content/arti...
Admitting publicly that you only want this bill that is designed to disenfranchise voters is necessary to make sure your party wins is quite a choice. The GOP has done away with subtlety and euphemisms and is now all "we need to cheat because the polls say people don't like us."
The lawyers are likely correct that Carr would lose this in court. They were also likely correct that Trump would lose his lawsuits against ABC and CBS -- but their corporate owners (with much deeper pockets to fight than a local station) folded instead. That’s the real threat.
"Carr has very little power to follow through. TV stations are not at serious risk of being banned from airwaves b/c of Carr’s crusade. However, comments still carry weight since [he] represents the US gov't & advances Trump’s policy agenda." (@brianstelter.bsky.social) www.cnn.com/2026/03/14/m...
when a presidential admin screws up as badly as the trump admin has screwed up in Iran, accountability is essential. There must be congressional hearings, investigations, and consequences for those responsible--including people losing their jobs, going all the way up to the top 1/2
The Iran war is showing that renewable energy is a national security imperative, and that fighting renewables tooth and nail as the White House has been doing since day one deeply undermines national security, as @ryanlcooper.com writes.

“Which means that Copenhagen, a city of 1.2 million people, saves $357 million a year on health costs because something like 80% of its population commutes by bike.” #CityMakingMath

Context and quote from me in the this @sltrib.com article.
It should be alarming to anyone in Utah that Rocky Mountain Power/PacifiCorp isn't planning to build any new solar, wind, or battery storage in the next 20 years for Utah. #utpol
In arid Utah, many data centers have pivoted away from water-guzzling evaporative cooling in favor of closed-loop systems — but those require more electricity to run.
And they’re turning to burning fossil fuels to produce that energy.
Excellent new video by Simon Clark interviewing @hausfath.bsky.social discussing the rate of warming and climate sensitivity in great detail.
Must watch!
