really proud of this release 😊 did a major architecture shift rather seamlessly for users, made it look more like a modern app, and a ton of UX improvements

WhatPulse@whatpulse.org

1/4 WhatPulse 7.0 is here. Our biggest release since the app was first written. A separate background collector, a new sidebar, league standings in the app, and six public betas behind it.

Nextcloud really wants you to do upgrades via the CLI, but there is a way to do it via the web interface the override params have me in tears πŸ˜‚

the Claude desktop app is winning over ChatGPT/Codex but their trajectories are pretty much the same; AI desktop apps are skyrocketing this is a good read, using actual usage data instead of surveys. (oh, and poor Cursor)

WhatPulse@whatpulse.org

1/4 In January 2024, 0.7% of active WhatPulse users typed into a desktop AI app. By September 2026: 21.3%. Our analysis covers 33 months, with roughly 12,000 to 13,000 active users each month.

oh wow, just learning the Dutch government just took all their websites offline during the period between leak and patch 😳

working on better security for the MuteDeck API endpoints, including a nice flow where the plugins (Stream Deck, Browser extensions, etc.) have the ability to call `/pair` to ask the user whether they can pair so the user doesn't have to copy API tokens πŸ™‚

monitor your email sending domains, folks had to learn that MeetingDebrief.com is on a DBL via @PostShiba πŸ˜… domain doesn't send much email, only "here's your license", password resets and has an opt-in mailinglist (that haven't gone out yet) competitors resorting to blacklisting? πŸ€”

I classified 500k applications for $0.7268 with Jev this used to cost ~$250 with batched API calls to GPT I like this new kind of model 🫢

for years these apps had a blank plain background when opening the DMGs on macOS I've been obsession over details in the apps, so why not obsess over the installation the same?

Random user-experience tip: when presenting a possible solution for an error that the user is running into make the possible solution link to the actual possible solution and not a 5-page help article nobody is going to read

just a quick reminder that agents like Claude Code still leak your email address to the internet when doing requests to websites like wikipedia, their policy can say "requests need an identifiable user-agent" and the agent translates that to "project/1.0 (users@email)"

there's 10,524 people competing in the WhatPulse Leagues I launched a few weeks ago, pretty awesome number 😊 put together a page with factoids, like how the closest relegation escape was a *single* point, and there are only 7 people in the highest division whatpulse.org/stats/leagues

I feel for the Apple store review team, but they're holding up so many businesses with their current lack of review capacity the Safari 1 is an existing extension with ~20 lines of code added the rejected 1 has been open for 3,5 weeks, going back and forth maybe once a week πŸ™

MuteDeck browser extension v7.1.0 is out. It adds support for Microsoft Teams personal on teams.live.com, with mute, camera, screen sharing, reactions, and leave controls. Also included: clearer connection errors, more accurate popup status, and Safari startup fixes.

watching these Photoshop and Office clones is fun, but it's also making me a little sad because there are a ton of already built good alternatives for these big tech apps but instead of "find me an alternative" people are just prompting "build me an alternative"

I know what it's doing and that it's not actually in the directory `/root` but every time I see this, it makes me uneasy

pipelines have become one of my biggest bottlenecks I run about 15,000 CI minutes per month for my websites and apps (8k macOS, 6k Windows, 1k Linux), costing ~$700 to $950 depending on the month this has almost tripled in costs this year (you can guess why) and I've decided to..

..decided to self-host workflow runners on a Hetzner dedicated server and a Mac Mini at home. everything is set up using Puppet manifests, so easily recreated, took me about half a day, and it'll save me ~$600 a month yes, I could've gotten more customers to cover, but usage is on an upward curve

data geeks unite - you'll love this new way to showcase your stats 😊

do you want to make maintaining an .agents directory and all your precious skill a full-time job.. or do you just want to get on with your work? just have a limited set of pre-rules, and just talk to your agents

I feel like the "security researchers" that tell you your DMARC record isn't right and ask for a bounty, are pretty much gone maybe they shifted to open-source only? or my spam filters are just too good πŸ€”

and they wonder why StackOverflow is dying.. google says it's because I haven't updated my browser in about 2 months and SO is blocking older ones but who tf updates every week?

for me as a developer personally, there isn't much of a better feeling to see something you've been working for weeks or months on, go live and actually performing exactly as designed

created a new brand account on X in an incognito browser, selected software, design, movies as interests first few posts on the for-you feed: naked selfies, porn, a cute cat, and more porn πŸ’€

arguing with Apple that I don't want to add In-App purchase for an app that's basically just a remote for a desktop application and has 1 main page and 1 settings page, and websockets to the desktop app desktop app is licensed, so they want a cut of the revenue 😠

finally updated the MeetingDebrief website to do its latest version justice, including a demo video. 😊 dictations, meeting transcriptions, summaries, action items, chatting with transcripts - all on your own computer.. *without* a subscription. meetingdebrief.com/

watched Runner yesterday, and it's a pretty good movie to switch off your mind for and holy shit, Reacher can act πŸ™‚

cloudflare is so great at individual features, but sometimes it's so dumb across it's portfolio..it feels like different companies in the same console they would go so hard on user happiness if they had a dedicated cross-feature team to make sure everything is integrated ...1/2

ex: deleting a domain? don't error but ask to cancel it from the registrar as well registrar lets domain expire? remove it from the domains as well even down to individual confirmation prompts: some ask for the object name as a confirmation, some ask "delete" for confirmation

I really don't like how codex is now intercepting copying text from the terminal and messes with the formatting it used to copy the bullet points - those are in the actual output why does it need to control how you copy?

both Google and Firefox reviews publishes extensions within 20-30minutes, pretty amazing given the number of extensions ..while Apple takes 3-4 days if you're lucky πŸ«
