Dungeness: A Leech’s Petrel came past the fishing boats relatively close this morning. It afforded excellent telescope views though camera views were not so good.

If you'd told me at the start of autumn that I'd see both Siberian Blue and Rufous-tailed Robins in Britain, I'd have laughed at you, but it's happened! Today's Rufous-tailed Robin at Flamborough hopped around in front of us for over an hour from dawn, showing down to a few metres. #ukbirding

I chose the comfort of the sea watch hide today for an excellent sea watch with James, 13 Sooty Shearwaters, Storm Petrel, 100s of Gannets, many Little Gulls, Starlings and Finches coming in off the sea and more. Full details are on Trektellen.

Had a fruitful lunchtime at Warkworth beach car park, with a very smart male Red-breasted Flycatcher & 2 Yellow-browed Warblers, also 2 Jack Snipe, 6 Whooper Swans, 6 Black-tailed Godwits, 8+ Blackcaps #NEbirding #birds

October seemed to be petering out quietly until this Isabelline Shrike popped up in front of me at Knockadoon Head. Less than 15 Irish records I guess.

A grey phalarope was found in the back car park at Samphire Hoe this afternoon. It was rescued from some unwanted magpie attention and was safely released, it flew off strongly. #kentbirding

Nutcracker!!! Sweet! It's been 25 years since I last saw a Nutcracker in the UK (Stoke-on-Trent, see 90s selfie below), so it was pleasing to just have to drive a few miles to see my first Norfolk and third British one. #UKBirding

Very fortunate to be standing right next to someone when they relocated the Nutcracker this morning in Mundesley. Over the course of the morning, I managed a few more brief views of the bird although missed it when it was showing down to a couple of feet!

The Mundesley Slender-billed Nutcracker was feeding on Wasps, which it picked off the gravel driveway. Many of the Dutch birds have been photographed eating wasps recently. Clearly a major autumnal food source. #NorfolkBirding

The Slender-billed Nutcracker at Mundesley this morning put on quite a show feeding within a metre of a very appreciative early crowd. What a bird! #NorfolkBirding

Pretty amazing to see an Eagle Owl within a mile of home on Thursday evening. No sign of jessies when it flew. Likely the one seen at New Holland recently. Saw it with a prey item, blurry pic but maybe a Jackdaw?

The magical 23rd strikes again! This Dusky Thrush pitched up on dyke about 4ft from me and gave me a bit of a shock! What a stonking bird! Not a bad birthday present either! #OrkneyBirding

I managed a quick dash to Cley this evening for the superb male Desert Wheatear just before the torrential rain arrived. I wonder where it’s been for the last few days?. #NorfolkBirding

So having left Scilly early due to Storm Austen, the driver dragged me north to Yorkshire on the way home to Norwich... Rufous-tailed Robin ... Ooph! #RarebirdsUk #YorkshireBirding

Nice to see the 1W male Desert Wheatear along the shingle ridge east of the beach car park at Cley early this afternoon #NorfolkBirding

A fantastic find by Molly Bell last weekend of an adult Greater Yellowlegs was conveniently close to a survey on Monday afternoon. I enjoyed fantastic point blank views of it, and had it to myself for entire time, the joys of birding in Ireland!

Pic by @whitburnbirds.bsky.social of the Whitburn Paddyfield Warbler. A bit more cooperative this a.m. - albeit for a short time only - than yesterday. A bloody brilliant bird though, and only the second I've ever seen. It's been quite good 'on patch' this week 😃.

Today, a Short-eared Owl landed on my car! Watched coming in high from the east on my survey site in SW Lincs (having crossed the North Sea in recent days?), it eventually touched down for a second before seeing me and carrying on. Magic! 👀 A male Hen Harrier was more aloof #lincsbirding #ukbirding

Waxwing. 😍 Huge flocks of these around at the moment. Seeing them in bright autumn sunshine & with golden foliage still present takes some beating. #birds #birding #birdwatching #finland #birdsseenin2026

Today, The Scottish Government announced that they have REFUSED plans to develop a golf course at Coul Links in Sutherland. This fragile landscape is home to some of our rarest and most threatened wildlife, so this a huge win for nature! 1/3

It's very tight to fit in a pre-work twitch this time of year! However, it's always worth squeezing one on when a shrike is involved. This Great Grey Shrike was found by Keith Knights at Ashby on Tuesday afternoon and obliged this morning.

Isabelline type shrike Kessingland 21/10/2026 @gavindurrant1.bsky.social find still showing well by the pillboxes. It has been leaving the cliff roost between 9-10 to feed on the inland side of the boxes. Those standing too close to its preferred feeding hedge have been missing it. #birds

Exciting times at Clifford hill GP when I discovered the first American passerine for Northants, American Buff-bellied Pipit, as something about this pipit looked strange. Probably my best bird find ever. Many happy birders today. Jack snipe was in the same area. #northantsbirds #ukbirding #PWC2026
