I have this theory that people in real life act like they do on the internet, and it's not just "Redditors" or Twitter users.

Every time I send someone on Discord whom I don't have as a friend a DM, it logs me out of all accounts and I get a violation for spam. Why does Discord even have this as an option if I'm not allowed to use it?

After 5 months Reddit support finally answered and decided to unban my account.

My Reddit account was suddenly banned this morning. I didn't post anything against the rules and didn't even get a message or warning. I can't even log in to my account to submit an appeal.

In a way it was nice having my account deleted. I found peace in knowing my digital trail had disappeared. Now it's back, and so are years of conversations I'm proud of -- along with a public archive of who I used to be. I somehow want to erase my past self while also keeping the archive.

I love reading detective novels because I'm an incredibly curious person. Unfortunately, that also means I keep spoiling details about the series for myself. Fuck.

"Gaming discourse is dead" and "Nuance is dead" are two thoughts I've kept coming back to over the last few years. Once you notice the pattern, you start seeing it everywhere. I struggle with it a lot.

John Linneman@dark1x.bsky.social

The state of modern gaming discourse is so poor it's genuinely heartbreaking to watch. The way people bicker using only extremes - it's like a whole generation forgot how to communicate. I've been engaged in internet gaming discussions since, like, 1997 - things have never been worse. Nuance is dead

There are wars going on, fascism is resurging almost everywhere, and there's a literal genocide happening. And somehow the thing keeping me awake at night is still people on the internet being incapable of basic critical thinking. I hate that about myself. I should have different priorities.

I'm currently reading Swag by Elmore Leonard, and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. The dialogue is good, and the prose, while a bit weird, is mostly fine, but 80 pages in, the characters are very forgettable so far. Before this, I was reading Joseph Hansen, whose writing I vastly preferred.

Okay, I'm doing better on my phone than on my desktop. Every score better than this would come down to luck for me.

I have cyborg eyes or something.

I assume I have been suspended for suspicious activity because a) I use a VPN, b) because I use a third-party- mobile client on my phone, or c) because I use an email alias. A message would have been nice.

I need a checkbox asking "Are you sure you give a shit about this?" before every time I post a comment somewhere

Remember to always cancel your Audible subscription! I threatened to quit and got a free credit. Did it again, and after a dozen refreshes or so they offered me half-price. Fuck Audible and their scummy retention tactics.

C# has: class, abstract class, sealed class, closed class*, record, sealed record, abstract record, closed record*, struct, record struct, ref struct, enum, closed enum*, union, and union case classes*. (* currently in proposal stage) Rust has: struct, enum. Yet somehow, Rust is β€œtoo complicated.”

At this point I’m just waiting for something supernatural to drag me out of everyday life. I’m ready for the plot twist where I have to save the world. I’d even take dying in a war -- just give me something worth fighting for.

After I got an email from Spotify yesterday announcing a price increase, I decided it's time to give Apple Music a proper try. I've had nothing but problems. The Windows app has crashed four times in the one day I've been using it, and every click takes like three seconds to process.

Not to mention all the UI usability problems. Switching to Cider made it a bit better, I think, but it's still not great. I really want to like Apple Music, but the first impression has been rough so far.

Hacker News, Reddit, YouTube: every programming space is now an endless wall of AI posts. I get it -- it's useful, even if I don't enjoy coding with it -- but does every second thread have to be about it? There are still other things worth discussing in programming.
