Bevy 0.20 is out now! It features Solari and DLSS improvements, better BSN syntax, BSN "ready" events, WESL is now Bevy's shader language, more UI widgets (color picker, scrollable list views, dropdowns), Sprite Materials, Extended 2D materials, Pan Orbit Camera, and more! bevy.org/news/bevy-0-...

bevy.orgBevy 0.20Thanks to 227 contributors, 817 pull requests, community reviewers, and our generous donors, we're happy to announce the Bevy 0.20 release on crates.i…

A quick note to the #Bevy community: for awhile now managing the many responsibilities of leading Bevy has made me retreat further and further into myself. The boundaries have protected me, but I've lost much of the lightness and joy in my day to day interactions with the community... (1/3)

in favor of a cold, detached, technical focus. This isn't a good way to live, and it isn't the tone I want to set for what it means to be a member of the Bevy community, let alone a leader of it. It wasn't always this way. I'm sure many of your remember the "good old days" of ... (2/3)

Carter interactions. Going forward, I will try my best to be your friend and ally, not some aloof technical adversary you need to contend with. I love what we have built together and I can't wait for what's next :) (3/3)

It is high time we started tracking these things as a matter of course in a standardized way. This has already caught a ton of regressions.

Bevy@bevy.org

The Bevy Metrics dashboard is now live at metrics.bevy.org! For each Bevy commit this tracks compile times, binary size, and runs stress tests on standardized, real gaming hardware. These are all graphed to identify historical trends and track down commits that improve or regress the state of Bevy!

Can someone explain to me why the PhantomData<fn() -> T> behavior cannot be the default implied behavior for unused types in Rust? (aka: pretend T is not stored on the type ... because it isn't). PhantomData comes up constantly for me in safe code and it feels SO clunky to me.

In a language where you can define some Foo trait for behaviors that don't take "self" as a parameter (ex: Foo::do_thing()), it feels pretty wild to me that being generic on that behavior requires anything more than specifying that you want MyType<T: Foo>.

I've been working on a #beatsaber map viewer (and hopefully one day, editor) that supports V3/group lighting. Still has a long way to go, but I think I finally have a promising design. #bevy #bevyengine #rustlang

All this chatter about how Rust is supposedly bad for game development is the exact same chatter I used to read about how Rust is bad for server-side apps, or desktop apps, or OS kernels, or libraries to be called from C, etc. etc. 1/2

Really excited about this release. The performance wins were HUGE this cycle, and we've made a lot of progress on the app development user experience.

Bevy 0.16 is out now! It features GPU-Driven Rendering, Procedural Atmospheric Scattering, Decals, Occlusion Culling, Relationships, Better Spawning, Unified Error Handling, `no_std`, Faster Transform Propagation, and more! bevyengine.org/news/bevy-0-...

It took me a year to finally set up (it taking this long was fully on me ... I got tired of doing paperwork), but I'm officially employee number 2 of the #Bevy Foundation!

Did some work on Bevy's catch-all (anyhow-style) error type today. I figured we might as well take advantage of the fact that we can be opinionated and fix the "stack trace noise problem". If you're familiar with the current state of affairs this will look blissfully simple to you. #bevy

My ECS Relationships PR just landed in #bevy! In addition to vastly improving Bevy's built in Parent/Children system, it also opens the doors to custom user-defined relationships, enabling people to easily "connect" entities to each other. Next for me is reactivity and Bevy's new scene system!

github.comRelationships (non-fragmenting, one-to-many) by cart · Pull Request #17398 · bevyengine/bevyThis adds support for one-to-many non-fragmenting relationships (with planned paths for fragmenting and non-fragmenting many-to-many relationships). "Non-fragmenting" means that entities ...

This allows us to immediately start honestly communicating with each other. This is better than nothing, but I think we should fundamentally rethink our language with the "real letters" at its core: A, E, F, H, I, L, M, N, O, R, S, U, X.

This sheds the inefficiencies (and moral failings) of our past and allows us to build a form of communication (and a society) that our children and our children's children can be proud of.

I don't want to irresponsibly throw around conclusions when I haven't finished my analysis, but I suspect that this weak foundation resulted in the decline of western civilization that we've seen over the last 2000 years. This will likely lead to its ultimate collapse.

I don't like identifying problems without providing solutions. I think a good first step would be to replace "fake" letters with their equivalents. For example, the last sentence would be "I ehina a eooe firse seee uoule ee eo reelaee "faae" leeeers wieh eheir euuiealenes".

This kicks off a sick fixation with shoving "E" down our throats over and over again. NINE TIMES in total. And we just ate it up like the dumb pigs that we are:
