Some Lula supporters apparently shouted his name out their window when it was announced he won and a cop pointed his gun at him and they took what is possibly the greatest image of a cop ever taken, like genuinely this would go hard as a cover for a Rage album its so poetic.

Ramaswamy’s ad aimed to enforce the stigma against rape victims that positions them as objects of suspicion and disgust at worst, patronizing pity at best. The Acton campaign now has to pitch a rape victim as something audiences aren’t used to imagining them being: competent, capable, and dignified.

Kyle Griffin@kylegriffin1.bsky.social

The Ramaswamy ad has pushed the largest newspaper in Ohio, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, to reverse its position on endorsements. "A candidate who uses childhood sexual abuse as a weapon against the person who endured it has crossed a line that Ohioans should defend, whatever their party."

this is all petty and shortsighted and dumb please leave us alone

NEW: DSA's National Political Committee passed two resolutions today aimed at Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman, beginning processes that could result in DSA-LA being forced to rescind its endorsement of her this weekend and/or Raman herself being expelled from DSA by January.

The E.P.A. knows how serious the cancer risk is from chemical plants that President Trump gave waivers to. There are thousands of pages of agency documents that detail this risk. We read them.

JUST POSTED: Today at The NYT we are publishing a major investigation into how President Trump used his executive powers to expose millions of Americans to greater cancer risks. A six month-long investigation built on more than 10,000 pages of FOIA records. Read it www.nytimes.com/2026/10/24/c...

About 2 million kids have lost SNAP since deep cuts were enacted last year. The ripple effects: Kids losing SNAP also lose automatic enrollment for free meals at school. And as more kids lose SNAP, their schools may be forced to drop Community Eligibility.

LA has spent four years asking: Where is our mayor? When I’m mayor, you won’t have to ask. LA deserves a city that shows up for us. A Los Angeles that loves us back. Let’s go get it.

Every "report" on the state of higher ed in the last year or so - from Yale to Cornell to Vanderbilt - represents an elite effort to 'understand' why the encampments happened, assign blame to the humanities and critical social sciences, and posit how similar protest can be permanently prevented.

This is a great summary of the landscape regarding LA's upcoming olympics, the City's ongoing fiscal crisis, & the absolute lack of transparency that exists around the cliff this city may be headed towards. One thing merits focus: Bass is a repeat player in clouding City expenses & performance.

Alissa Walker@awalkerinla.bsky.social

Karen Bass' campaign has made LA's Olympic preparation continuity into a major talking point, saying during last week's debate: "I believe that the city would be destabilized" if Nithya Raman was elected before 2028. Bass needs to project the vibes that the deal is under control (it is not)

it’s biggest funders are Michael Miliken and Meyer Luskin (also huge UCLA donors) who do not need or deserve public funding to conduct whatever weird experiments they have planned

Mikhail Zinshteyn@mzinshteyn.bsky.social

NEW/EXCLUSIVE: The science research institute that would likely receive $4.2 billion in public taxpayer money if voters approve Prop. 38 this November had only three employees as of last month — far fewer than the 51 staffers it planned to have hired by last year. Story based on public records.

Yes. This is disgusting. The Trump admin manufacturing the evidence to support their conspiracy theories of widespread non-citizen voting. They arrest a tiny number of people (arrests crafted to draw attention), at least some of whom having no idea of the crime they’ve been accused of.

this is all so petty and embarassing and pathetic.. historians deserve better

I am in Cap Haitien interviewing people deported from the United States. I have been doing this kind of work for almost a decade and it literally does not get more dire than this. People have lost everything they built in the U.S. and are terrified and have no place to go or way to live.
