Frederick Douglass, 1857: Those who profess to favor freedom yet deprecate agitation want crops without plowing the ground; they want rain without thunder + lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its waters. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.

Where but in the Land of the Free, would the president not only interfere directly in the World Cup, but then make a speech openly declaring corruption, while hating on the sport? Are you not entertained?

Kind of interesting: I thought the thing where the word "capitalism" is so vague it can mean anything from consumerism cronyism to the right to own private property was relatively recent, but here's Chesterton complaining about it in 1927

Hot take: Elon was probably not trying to do a Nazi salute. He is absolutely awkward and impulsive enough to just move his body without thinking through what it looks like.

(To be clear, though, that was the closest thing to a Nazi salute I have ever seen which was not intended to be a Nazi salute. That includes gestures by Laura Ingraham, Elizabeth Warren, Hilary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Kamala Harris.)

I have an extension that makes youtube titles more accurate and it's great. It replaces sensational titles and thumbnails with informative ones and frames from the videos. Highly recommend. dearrow.ajay.app/

I've watched the Disney development process close up for the last 12 years as Disney has failed to get The Graveyard Book made. I can confidently say that I do not believe the problems have ever been Not Enough Disney Executives Were Involved.

Bandcamp is the only musical bright spot on the Internet, so hopefully it won't get killed in its most recent sale. People actually pay for downloads on Bandcamp, and the money actually goes to the artists.

You are up to date.
