Listening Glossary explores the many meanings and practices of listening. In an era shaped by climate crisis, war and deepening social inequalities, listening is increasingly called upon to bear witness – to melting glaciers, disappearing species, militarised borders, extractive infrastructures and

other forms of violence and loss. This glossary is a practical guide to listening as a social, political and imaginative practice. It gathers over two hundred terms from art, ecology, activism, psychology, education and philosophy across nine decades of thinking about listening as a way of relating

The piece was shown in Cyprus and Scotland before finding its permanent home in the collection of the city of Porto. This work was realized within the framework of a European Media Art Platform residency program at NeMe with support from the Creative Europe Culture Programme of the European Union.

I'm so thankful to Alexia Achilleos for her collaboration on the conceptual development of the work. I'm also grateful to the team at Pláka for selecting the work as part of the Aquisições program as well as making sure the process went as smoothly as possible.

Do not make tribes, this will only strengthen the social order that will be imposed upon you. Do not willingly gather into mono-cultures. Do not become neatly sorted, labelled, and categorized. It will only take a single blight to wipe you out, because you will be sorted by your weaknesses. 6/7
